Tipping is out of control over here in Canada and im assuming USA

Staff are underpaid so they rely on tips.

Anyhow when you are paying the visa/debit terminal quick tip options used to start at 10%. Most people who tip give around 15% but some give less, none or more. Since pandemic it now starts at 18% or 20%.  Whats more insane when you order food and pick it up yourself  they still ask for the same amount.

****in hate tipping as i just wish people were paid a living/good wage. Yes it will increase food costs but it takes the guessing game out without making you feel like a cvnt if you give 10 or 15 or 20.

Everyone these days wants a tip. Lol.

In fact can i get 15% for this shite post?

I don't tip, as a general rule. I've started giving my local chippy a bit more as they've not really put their prices up and I like them.

I prefer to give my money to charities and donations. I try to donate between 1-2% of my yearly salary.

I used to like tipping the black men in toilets with catchy lines, but now they all use card machines with a minimum £5 charge, so no more of that for me.

Lots to unpack here? Who are these black men in toilets you're getting chatty with?

Haha usually in late night bars and clubs. They have an array of knock off aftershaves and shout "no spray no lay" at you. Gum, lollipops, mints.

Have a mint, get sprayed with some knock off joop, give the fella £2 and it's back out into the game. I'm pretty sure one of these guys got about a tenth of my student loan.

Its getting like that in the UK.

Norm was that a tip was optional. Then its 10% automatically on your tip who you obvs aren't going ask to be taken off to look cheap. Its creepy up to 12.5 or 15 as the norm now.

Can't wait for a 25 % norm in a few years time....

Some of these guys make very good money for what they do.

You clearly haven't met me then.

If a restaurant advertises at the point of ordering (menu) what the costs are, then fine. It's my choice and I go elsewhere.

But if a bill comes and it's added on, I would 100% argue that.

Pretty much always tip in restaurants.

Ubers / Taxis (If drunk)

I've always tipped barbers but I've started going to that L'homme place on Queens Road and they charge 27quid. Its deece but its 27 quid anyway cmon man.

I rarely ever tip. Only if the worker has done something out-of-the-ordinary in order to provide a memorable exceptional experience.

Drinks out here are pretty much all table service so we tip them, at restaurants, my hairdresser, taxis, takeaway delivery drivers, just the usual really.

Not much, mind, only a couple of euros.

I'm less for adding a specific percentage and more for just rounding the bill up tbh.

Tip all Ubers or taxis. The staff in pubs I like, will buy them a beer every time I’m in. This also means you get invited to lock-ins and so on. But generally people really appreciate it.
Will tip 10 to 15 percent of restaurant bills, if service is good.

I don't tip at all.  I believe in good, honest pricing.

What if you get great service from a certain individual? Surely better to tip them than pay a higher price with which the owners see the profit.

Restaurants as long as the food/service hasn’t been poor. Sometimes Ubers/Taxis if the fare was well priced and the driver seemed decent enough.

I feel like it’s dying out anyway. At restaurants whenever you’d pay by card there used to be an option to pay a gratuity. They never seem to ask for that anymore.

Where do you stand on service charge being added as standard?

Lol this is universal then.

When i was clubbin back in my uni days (late 90s early 2000s) there were ALWAYS some brothaz in the mens washrooms doing the same with fake joop, selling condoms, mints etc. Over here they were all somalian and likely worked in clubs because they didn't speak much english and it was an easy job. Kind of felt bad for them as I'm sure some were educated and had to deal with drunk men who piss everywhere (not me, i didn't drink in uni but still pissed all over place.....you know to fit in the experiences and all....joking!).

Always give the bin men and posties a tip

So do I:

Please don't leave my bin in the middle of the pavement. It gets in people's way if I'm not at home to put it away.

Please put the mail all the way through my letterbox. It reveals the potential of nobody being at home. And the exposed bit gets wet when it rains.

Thanks

Barber, takeaways and restaurants

Barber yes, restaurants if the staff and service are good. Takeaways, why? They do F all for customer service. You collect your food, they don't "serve" you.

If I order from my local Indian I tip them as the food is class and I like them. They also give me a good service probably off the back of tipping.

Good on you, I do enjoy bar work but it can be draining when you are dealing with certain people. Everybody is different, but I always remember the people who were kind and made your day, not the ignorant and purposely rude customers. It always speaks volumes about them, I am a firm believer in that how somebody treats a hospitality worker says a lot about who they are as a person.

My daughter has been working at a well renowned and always busy hotel, near Hinckley,.  She has said she's had more verbal crap from customers than she has had tips.
