He’s played a large proportion of the games during our best sustained period in this league. He’s a decent Premier league player and the value we paid for his is debatable.

Perhaps. He’s defo not a 💩 starter, but he’s pretty dire - other than a handful of games. He’s been a disappointment given the fee, perhaps if he cost £10m I’d be more accepting of what you’re saying.

He’s not all been bad, but you could say the same about Slimani. He scored important goals in the Champions League, but regarded by most to be a 💩

Several clubs have made similar amounts of transfers that haven't worked out.

 

Not every transfer will work out good or even perfect.

 

Would be good to see the outlay, for comparison, on all the transfers that have worked out...

Ryan Bennett (loan). Ward (£12m) has to be in goal. Mendy should be in the mix as well.

You're not gonna get a proven PL player for £10m nowadays. You don't even get a good Championship player for that. Perez scored double figures in a poor Newcastle side.

 

With us he's largely been out of position. The fee we paid probably was too much but we just shove him out wide.

Yea the defo of doggo here is basically not working out. Like Luis Hernandez, just didn’t settle. He looked ok, but…!

Yeah, we’ve had quite a few weird ones like that. I’m pretty sure Gokhan Inler was shìt hot, but he never really got in the side. Kramaric clearly was and is absolutely superb, but something didn’t work.

I've probably missed some. We have players who we signed pre 2014 and players from the academy who have made a lot of appearances.

 

Honourable mentions to Castagne,  Justin and Ndidi. Can't remember when we signed Simpson.  

 

Second centre back is tough as all four have done well at times.  Maguire did well for us too.

 

Distinct lack of forward options with Mahrez,Vardy and Barnes all doing a few seasons.

I think every team has hits and misses when it comes to recruitment.

 

Benkovic and Vestergaard are the stand out names on that list.

But unfortunately the fee is absolutely a factor in a "good" transfer against a "bad" transfer. Especially for a club like us with so little owner investment.

Every club makes bad signings. Just as every club makes good signings. We’re no exception. I would state that we get it right more than we get it wrong and that we have gotten it very right more than most clubs. I’m not going to list the players because we all know who they are.
