Wow, that's sad. Often felt he was among the main reasons why foreign players/managers started to get the credit and respect they deserved for improving the game in England.

Yeah thought similar, so many less likeable people now in the game.

Sad news. This hits me harder than most. My best mate growing up was a massive Vialli fan and supported all the clubs he played for. So to this day I still have a soft spot for Sampdoria.

 

That duo with Mancini was special.

Great player. I remember him changing the game for Chelsea at Filbert Street in autumn 96.

One of the most iconic and most clinical strikers of his era .

 

And seemed to really enjoy playing - usually smiling .

 

Didn’t workout with us management wise  but he gave it ago.

Pancreatic cancer scares and infuriates me at the same time - one of the few cancers we seemingly can't work on beating very well at the present time because it's so good at hiding itself until it's too late.

I loved his punditry when he covered Brazil 2014 or Euro 2016, whichever it was. Very erudite and charming in a way that out the usual suspects to shame.

 

I read once that he didn't enjoy managing which is why he didn't get back into it, his Chelsea spell was really impressive - he won the League Cup, Cup Winner's Cups and European Super Cup in 2 seasons.

Sad news. Remember that Sampdoria team in my early years of following football. When Vialli rocked up at Chelsea he was so....cool.... for want of a better expression.

Ignorance on my part but didn't realise he'd won as much in Italy as he had. Chelsea thrived with him as a player and manager.

A bald bloke whose name means Jean-Luc... bound to be brilliant.

 

Really tragic death, pancreatic cancer is a horrible way to go, and at such a young age. He must be the last player in this country to win a trophy as a player-manager.
