This was his ‘I am not playing or I will miss the World Cup’ phase wasn’t it? A mutation of Mahrez’s “screw you I have always liked airport lounges’ syndrome

Not sure these luxury positions are ours to hold out for at the moment to be honest.

What site is all that injury detail from? It's very comprehensive.

There's absolutely no need for us to sign a potential bad apple for 30 million and have them stuck with us till we loan them out to a Turkish/Serie A team that'll bend us over a barrel. Much like we didn't have to sign Vestergaard. We can take a long term view of things and plug gaps in the short term. There's no acceptable excuse for making a long term signing to fix a short term issue. It's a really dumb way of operating and will only yield failure and disappointment. See us now after a couple of years of operating that way. 1

Depends on how long we have been attentive, trouble is, we are so secretive we could have been monitoring this guy for years or picked him from watching a game last week. 1

Also, I'm not saying he is a bad egg, just that it's a huge red flag and it's imperative that we take as much interest in a players personality as we do their ability. We need to start applying some of the core principles that have allowed us to punch above our weight 1

(The Tsygankov one particularly melts my mind as it’s so very odd.) 1
An Sionnach Posted 16 January 2023 Posted 16 January 2023 Is this geezer a charity worker because I have no idea how we are going to pay him. We pay out £2 million a week already in wages alone and you can't defer those like you can a loan. 1

It's a myth we didn't have any flexibility in our wages to recruit, plus we gave Fofana a new 100k a week deal and then sold him, the reports are we are doubling Gonzalez's wages to about £75k a week. 2

That is not what Rodgers and the club are saying. The wage bill is screwing us and our income is not keeping up. It will ease in the summer theoretically but not if we continue to load it with players like this. Faes took up half of Fofana's pay almost immediately anyway. There is a definite touch of the Leeds catastrophe about all of this.

oxtonfox Posted 16 January 2023 Posted 16 January 2023 Seems more likely that he's on his way to Newcastle. They've nipped in while we have been messing about.

Worth a watch re finances… bit of both yes we’re paying out a ridiculous amount on contracts and owe a lot of money but after I’d listened to this I felt a lot more positive re our financial situation even if we were to go down Edited 16 January 2023 by dbtcity 2 3

TeaMen Tom Posted 16 January 2023 Posted 16 January 2023 I do agree, as per the podcast, that they have too much overpaid deadwood on the roster just collecting a paycheck - with Vestergaard & Bertrand leading the pack. I think it's part of the reason that there's zero fight in the squad. 1
