Have you seen him in the past few games?

 

Of course he's desperate to score, but it's a combination of being played in the wrong position and needing the goals more than playing him for just sentimental reasons. Iheanacho in a 2 is probably the better option. Vardy doesn't really run the channels any more due to fitness, hasn't finished chances when they have come his way, and we don't play to his strengths.

 

There's a reason he doesn't get a mention.

Man City reflections?

“We knew Man City away was going to be unique and the level they’re at compared to everyone else apart from Arsenal. It didn’t help being two down too early. We defended our box well and finished the game well. Everyone knows how important this game is, at home under new management. Hopefully we can start how we finished at Man City.”

 

What have you seen from players?

“We’ve seen confidence in players that has been missing. From the match, I saw players who cared. We were 3-0 down but the players had a pride in their performance and a pride in the team’s performance. It shows there is character in the team. That should help us win football matches.”

 

Expected goals?

“I worked at Brentford for three years so I have to place some importance on it! The state of the game dictated it. For them to only have 1.6 was strong for us defensively. 0.8 is a penalty, so they didn’t create massive chances. We defended our box really well. It happened that we finished the game well. Despite the changes they made and that we made, it’s still hard to create those chances.”

 

Feeling before and after the Man City game?

“Before the game, I thought there was an excitement about it, a feeling we could do something very few teams do. Those flames got dampened quickly. Half-time was difficult. The players were a bit low. Man City had lots of control, but the big thing was they hadn’t created big chances. We changed a few things. We wanted to be more aggressive and we did that, winning the ball back. The feeling was ‘what if?’. What if Madders had taken his chance to get to 3-2? The players have learned what we want as a coaching team and we’ve learned a lot about them.”

 

Soyuncu?

“I’ve always liked him from afar whenever I’ve watched him or come up against him. He’s aggressive and quick. My worry was the lack of game-time, but he had played for Turkey. When I spoke to him, the fire was there. He cares for the club. It was great to see.”

 

How to approach match?

“You won’t see us sitting in a low block for the majority in the game. We felt that was the best approach for Man City. Hopefully you see more a side that is demanding in possession and is a threat at the top end.”

 

How to deal with Wolves?

“We have to work out whether they bring Neves back in. They’ve won two games without him. We have to make sure we nullify the threats they have. They like to create overloads and get crosses in. We fully respect the team they are. But we can’t play with any fear.”

 

Fans?

“It’s important we’re together. We all want to win games and stay in the league. Fans want to see players working hard for each other. We need to give them something to shout about. The last game before Covid, I went there with Villa and lost 4-0. From the moment the first goal went in, they were right behind the team and we need that again.”

Not a wholly bad thing as with Youri and Maddison playing centrally, it also allows us to play with 2 strikers.

yeah i am happy for that, the two wing backs had enough to provide the width.

Take Ndidi out of the limelight, try and get Mendy playing like he did against Chelsea and Spurs. There's enough in there I would say to match Wolves and more. Iheanacho has to start. 

Barnes confirmed out just reinforces why this is/should be the squad to start on Saturday.

 

Vardy, Praet, Tete options to come off the bench...

Somebody needs to start holding this medical team accountable. Not only is the volume of injuries an obvious concern, but the lack of transparency over timeframe is a bigger issue.

 

It has been a recurring theme for about two years now. Players get injured (we can all accept that) but it’s just the constant “Player X” will not be available for Saturday and no indication as to how long it will be. 
 

Our players seem to get fairly generic injuries and then you don’t see them for weeks. I just don’t understand it. Barnes is a prime example, it has happened about three times now.

Yeah, agreed. People will point towards the need to rebuild our playing squad because it’s the most visible thing for supporters, but it is evident that the management also needs an overhaul. 
 

Like you say, we can forget promotion if we can’t get the basics right. Quite plausibly, a cold week in November could look like this for us:

 

Millwall (A)

Hull (H)

Bristol City (A)

 

When you factor in our current trajectory with injuries, we would be totally screwed. The thought of us dropping is actually terrifying lol

If we got seven points, the wins would obviously be better coming against Leeds and Everton. Unfortunately we don't have the luxury of being able to choose and just need points on the board asap...
