Tbf Villa fans love him for how he got them promoted under not dissimilar circumstances. The black mark is his time with Norwich.

Villa fans love him even more now a Villa fan has taken us down!!!!

They haven’t improved since he left. We also don’t know how reliant he is on Terry? As he wasn’t part of the coaching set up at Norwich.

Sorry I thought you were thinking that a manager from one of the lesser teams in the premier league would jump a division down and take us on.

I agree with you someone like Rafa would be class.

Nah, that won't happen.

But a good manager could point to our setup to a young, up-and-coming Championship player and tell them they can bed themselves into a promotion chasing squad and train every day at world class facilities before getting huge promotion bonuses and being adored by the fans. Or they can to go to an objectively smaller club, get embroiled in a relegation battle and be looking for another club in 12 months with a relegation on their CV.

It's worth looking into this in a bit more detail.

Only lost 2 of their first 13 games. Winning 5 in a row at one point.

They had a horrific October, recovered in November and the WC break came at a crap time, came back lost a few games and they sacked him before the transfer window.

His time there last season was 24 league games, 10 wins, 5 draws, 9 losses.

Wagner who took over 21 league games, 7 wins, 5 draws, 9 losses.

You'd be hard pushed to say they didn't pull the trigger a little early lookng at that, especially given what can happen post January in the champ and with a transfer window!

Anyone mentioned Farke?

He's at a mid-table Bundesliga club. Unless he gets the boot, he won't be moving to the championship.

We cannot appoint Dean Smith, he wasn’t able to motivate the squad for their biggest game V Fulham or pick the right team and he has failed.

As to who we should have, i don’t know world football enough to pick a name but a key characteristic of anyone we bring through the door coaching/playing wise now has to be young, motivated and have a very clear vision on how we regroup.

It's worth making contact with Ruud Van Nistelrooy even though I'm not convinced he'd come here

Fulham aside, Dean did the best he could. He got form out of a rock bottom team to a level with a few more games we would have been safe. I don’t buy into not picking the right team because he didn’t play Mendy. He had a short window and had to pick what was available to him based on what he saw in training.

They weren’t his player’s tbf. I just don’t think we have the time for the process of recruiting a new manager and coaches. Smith can hit the ground running.

I don't think he's got the legs anymore for a 46 game season, Daka would be the better option

All this is true.

He also got shafted at both Derby (fell out with their insane owner who was spying on training sessions with Drones) and Watford (sacked by a trigger happy madman who replaced him with someone who achieved less PPG). I don't think it's fair to call them blotches on his CV - Leuven was the only really bad appointment.

He'd be mad to want to come in right now anyway with the mess he'll inherit - he's been given time at Bristol City, has improved their squad with some exciting young players and they feel like a club on the up all pulling in the same direction. I'm actually kind of jealous of them at the moment.

Is this not the man that came in when we got relegated before and totally transformed us? Walked the league and withing a couple of attempts got us promoted again?

Why do you say he'd be mad to take it on? He's taken us on in a worse position than the one we are currently in.

This is exactly what he is good at and would relish the chance to do it again.

Smith is a villain

the fact he is in charge when we’re relegated ingratiates him even more within their fanbase

Villa don’t give a shit about us, why would they? The majority would have preferred Everton to go down.

As for Smith, I’m really disappointed how little impact he made, admittedly they weren’t his players and there was only so much he could do. I just think at the very least, I was expecting him to be more obviously motivational. He doesn’t seem to be a manager fans or players could really get behind.

Won't happen but after Martin's comments a few weeks ago about being tempted back to Leicester if asked. I wonder if Top might be considering that option. I'm not sure that MON returning would be solution to a complete rebuild, but considering that TOP has wanted him in the past.

Smith was a season ticket holder at Villa for years and openly admits he follows them when out and about in the midlands. I must be the only one receiving pictures of him laughing and joking in Leicester kit from jubilant Villa fans saying mission accomplished!

I've never met a Villa fan that gives even the slightest bit of a shit about us.

Would be a gamble but the sort of gamble I could see paying off nicely.

I watched the Gary Neville interview with him recently and though he came across as genuinely intelligent, committed and driven. Sort of person the squad would surely look up to.

So did Marc Albrighton, in fact Shakey is a Villa fan, still did a job here. Wes Morgan was a Forest fan but lifted the championship title, premier league and fa cup with us. Players and managers have a job to do no matter who they support, so I'm not sure what your getting at.

Worrying lack of rumours at the minute

Don't think we will hear much this week.

Half of the non playng/coaching club staff will be getting their P45 today, that'll be priority number one to trim some costs.

I imagine Smith and co's contract finishes on Wednesday. Might get some clarity there before the end of the week.

UK transfer window opens next Friday I believe.
