Can he play defensive midfield?🤔

Might be a good ploy to make the opposition cry as we take the ball off them and score.

The clubs that normally stay up in these scenarios are the ones where players actually care about the club and have some personal pride also. You would think that, even if the players don't give a fig about the club, that they'd be putting it in for themselves to get a Premier League club next season, put themselves in the window, so to speak ? If not and they want to leave, who in their right mind would want a player that gives up and has no fight ? I'm sure the talk will all be of desperation, doing it for the fans/manager/club/family etc but I don't buy it - words are cheap. They should be crawling off the pitch, win, lose or draw, not shaking hands, laughing and joking behind their hand with the opposition. It's all about character, and none of our players have it sadly.

There is nothing in any of the performances which indicate we have it in us to stay up - if we concede first tonight our GD could be tanked as well. Toon are no mugs despite already having virtually qualified top 4 -  and it's their last home game so will be very much up for it.

Have agree. Another 3 goal defeat. Our boat is leaking and we up to our knees in water. The idea we can sail into the sunset is absurd.

shld hv asked Borcelli to  sing us one last time this season..

Given that the original English lyrics were Time To Say Goodbye I'd say that's apt.

I mean for any half decent set of players that motivation and mission is pretty straight forward. Sureley it would be hard not to be up for this as a player?

Give everything you have for 90 minutes, put your body on the line, give it all. After tonight 6 days rest and we go again.

This squad performing can match anyone. They need to go out there and have the opportunity to prove everything that has been said about them this year wrong! Its up to them!

I cant think of anything that would give me more motivation as a player...but I guess I have a better mentality!

Regardless of their plans next season, you'd think they'd not want relegation on their CV!!

I don't think it's necessarily about players caring...we've been molded under Rodgers to be calm, trust playing our game and pass our way to victory. But now we're in a frantic situation where we need to run more and fight but we've not done that. We've approached the run in to play our way to safety but it's not happened for us and we've ended up conceding soft goals. Think we need to mix it up and trust our game but be more direct and quicker to the box!!

The lights are on but nobodies home, I'm afraid. We will turn up and no doubt have a decent, disciplined first 5 or so minutes. The moment we concede a goal or an opportunity, it'll go to shit. There's a reason we are where we are with two games to go. Sadly they aren't going to suddenly find this fighting spirit we all desire or the quality we all know they once had. This has been coming for 18+ months. I fear an absolute hammering tonight.

We're like a team that goes in at half time winning 3-0 They come out in the 2nd half and think the game is won and have turned off. It doesn't matter how much the opposition chases them down they just can't get going again and end up lose 4-3.

I still believe! No idea why given what I've witnessed recently, but I do. Also dreamt we stayed up last night so we're a shoe in, starting with a win tonight 🙏

These players have proved multiple times that it’s not in them to rise to the occasion. There’s a long list of examples but I’ll start with Forest away in the FA Cup.

I’d say apart from Vardy, Dewsbury Hall, Ricardo and Iverson the rest are absolutely rotten mentality wise.

Too harsh on the players.  Rodgerism is still alive and well.

Also, Nachoman cares. His pass while holding his groin is going go into Leicester folklore forever.

Evans cares. He was just injured too much.

Maddison cares. But he can’t do it alone.

This would be pretty much my mentality all week.

You almost want Smith to step aside and let JT give it a bit of the old Mourinho Chelsea us against the world siege mentality. It's hard to say from the outside but Smith almost seems too nice and too sensible, focusing on all the technical things we need to be doing better.

Thing is technical had never been our problem, Rodgers was great at technical, what we needed was a massive injection of heart.

I want eleven psycho nutters to go out on the pitch later with the attitude that Newcastle can take our lives, they can take our homes but they can't take our clean sheet. (That's what Mel Gibson said right?) I want the attitude that if we're going down we're taking bodies with us and if Newcastle want to score a goal it's going to cost them broken legs.

Terry and Mourinho were absolute masters of that, the straight up determination to never lose a game was a defining characteristic of what made their Chelsea so good. I just want to see us play with 10% of that spirit.

Absolutely - when media, pundits and opposition fans say that we shouldn't be where we are, they base this opinion on quality, not mentality. If we had the siege mentally you mention, we would have a very good chance of leaving Newcastle with at least a point (ideally 3 obviously) They will expect us to roll over tonight and on previous showings they're probably right.

We need to bring war to them.

Certain players have left already.

Talent isn’t the issue it’s the mindset.

They might think they care but subconsciously couldn’t give a shit because they are leaving anyway.

Tonite for me is whether this team of players can remember who they all were when they beat spurs and villa resoundingly! Forget about FA cup, charity shield, Europa etc which seem like a lifetime ago now.

smiffy should be analyzing the heck out of those two games. Something happened then and these guys played like a proper football team. Find that missing link and we win tonite. Otherwise if smiffy is just making things more confusing let the players just figure it out themselves.

lets go foxes one last time!

We had just signed Tete, Kristiansen and Souttar. It was a confidence boost and injected fresh energy. Maybe changing it up again tonight might be the answer??

No chance.

Everton's late, late goal and Liverpools late goal have done us.

Would love to be wrong but this group hasn't had any fight in it for ages, and that's exactly what we'll need tonight in a very hostile ground against a side full of confidence.

A bad as Chelsea are, I can't see Newcastle wanting to go there needing something on Sunday and they'll want to finish above Man U

We beat Spurs because they were even more garbage than usual, that day.

They would have lost to anyone 1/2 decent,  that day.

Villa we played well , but they were pretty wasteful and we took our chances

Joking aside, these are the same players who won a FA cup and had us consistently competing for Europe for 3 seasons. Yes things are different now but they've proven they are capable in the past!!

Correct but all with new or full contracts. That's not the case now and they don't care.

So why should we care about them.

It's not the losing that hurts me, but the lack of fight. Stroll around waving your arms is not caring or fighting for this great club.

It's just a cvnt that's given up and don't care. The sooner these over paid idol cvnts have gone the better.

The FA cup and europe means nothing now.

As the old saying goes you're as good as your last game. These players have been shite in 90% of games this season.
