My grandad and uncle were both Schalke fans and me and my dad have always followed Bayern, so that was interesting for us! I actually followed the outcome of this on teletext.

 

So yes, if we win and anyone is updating on the Everton result, please be accurate.

Too young to have seen one in action but had a Subbuteo one - Half Time Scoreboards.

Your Program would allocate a letter to each match ie A :- Bolton v Derby B:- Everton v Tottenham etc and the scores would be slotted into the grooves beneath this number on wooden boards.

 

 

 

Or maybe we could get Filbert to walk round signalling the score to the crowd? Could get Feisty if it's 2-2!

My mother started watching in the 1940's.  To get the other scores, she and my Graddad had to rely on my Grandma writing the scores down in the paper as they were read out on the radio.  Otherwise, it was next day's paper.

Can remember at Stoke on that horrible day we got relegated to the third tier there were a couple of times false rumours started in the away end and people were cheering even though it turned out nothing was happening wherever we needed it to.

In 1997, at 12 I went to the US with my Grandparents & Cousins and flew home the day of the Carling Cup Final against Middlesboro

A season ticket holder, had it not have been for this pre-booked holiday I would have been at Wembley

I rang my parents from the hotel just as the coach came to take us to airport - just after the game finished

I was told it had finished 0-0, we are into extra time and just as my Nan hung up, the last thing I heard was my Dad shouting "Middlesboro have just scored"

 

Had we lost, had my Dad been winding me up.

I had no way of knowing until we landed at Heathrow the following morning

I can't imagine now not just being able to look at my phone and seeing the score no matter where I am - or in fact finding a way to watch the match.

Same here. When I upgraded to a 5g phone late last year I wondered if it might be better but I've not really noticed any improvement 😬
