Looking at our signings over the last 6 seasons according to Soccerbase.

We've signed 24 players costing £356,800,000

Of the 24 only Maddison, Tielemans and Faes are currently first-choice players.

Of those who have gone, only Fofana has brought in a decent fee and would have been considered first choice.

Others who would have been first choice, Justin, Evens and Pereira have missed a huge amount of games because of injury.

The others have either been overlooked or not been good enough.

I'm sure plenty of people will argue about some of the listed players but you get the point.

For me, it shows why we are, where we are.

Obviously, there has been some very good buys but plenty of rubbish ones which I think we've had more than our fair share.

Happens in most Clubs.

Not recently though, that was the point.

£55m We've not got our value out of that and are unlikely to do so.

I know it’s controversial but I still like the business we did this season.

I think Faes is a player who with the right leadership could become a star. He’s similar to soyuncu in many ways and if we can sort out the brain farts who knows how good he can get.

I personally am a huge fan of souttar, he will be a cult hero next year. Not a clue why smith was so against him.

kristansen got worse with each week… what does that tell you about our club. The player that arrived was a good signing… a few weeks of our methods and the life was sucked out of him.

Tete, we got wrong. He clearly just doesn’t have enough pace for the english game. A bad fit. But at the same time, as a loan signing… worth a punt.  I have a feeling that if our fixtures had been kinder, we could have gone on a good run. But having man u and arsenal back to back took away the fresh faces boost from us and it went downhill from there.

I think glover showed that he’s looking in different pools and wasn’t focusing on one league. So objectively, I don’t think it was as bad as many people think it was

We took chances on Too many players from abroad who just couldn't adapt to the Premier League instead of tried and tested players. You get the odd one out of a dozen who is able to show some class. Certainly paid too much for the players we got while their resale value is a lot less now. The money paid for Ward is an absolute joke for a second string goalkeeper.

I would look at our most played starting 11 from 20/21 season and see how the club has evolved.

The full backs are exactly the same, The midfield is exactly the same, Our striker is still the same albeit another 2 years on his legs. The rest of the league progressed we didn't.

The changes happed in Goal and at CB

GK - Kasper left - no one was brought in, we lost his Goalkeeping and leadership abilities with nothing,

CBs were Fofana, Soyuncu, Evans - Fofana left, Soyuncu was ostracised, Evans

Replaced by  Faes (has the same initials as Fofana, but that is it), Amartey (I know there is a Big Dan fan club, but nowhere near as good as Soyuncu at his best) and well still Evans who is ever increasing our medical bills.

Our changes all made our team significantly worse.

And not just that - none of our top players had any competition for places

People thought that 16/17 was bad (and it was), but this was the window that killed us. If one of those players made an impact, we are still in the Premier League.

But that's transfers. There's always an element of risk!

Well, quite, but I was surprised at how few have been good in 6 seasons and 12 windows

Yeah, that's very true but look at the players some of the others have brought in, Brighton for instance.

They've brought their fare share of clangers. Jahanbaksh and Locadia for example.

We didn’t sign Benkovic and Soyuncu in the same window as Tielemans on a permanent ? I’m sure it was the year before

It's a good point I reckon 7 of the 11 that started  2015 were from English teams. I can only think of maybe Fuchs, Kante, Okazaki and Mahrez that were signed from overseas. The core of the team is from other English teams even if they aren't by nationality.

Aren't half of these listed under the wrong season? As you've got 17/18 but only two of them were actually that season, you've also missed Maguire?

Pretty sure head scout/recruitment  left for Bordeaux in 2019 which just so happens to coincide with the lack of real quality being brought into the club by his replacement and those around him with power to make things happen (or not in the case of John Rudkin).

£170m later and only Castagne and Faes the only two regulars out of that crop of players signed. Granted Fofana was a starter and someone who if he had the right brain capacity we could have built a team around and moved on higher earners or players advancing in age.

Add to that the disastrous decisions to sign Bertrand, and Vestergaard from a side we dicked 9-0 the previous season and in a Southampton team with the worst defensive record that season

, plus the rather insane decision to splash 17m on Soumare when we already had 6 cm’s at the club and we’ve been crying out for a top quality right winger since Mahrez and we STILL never replaced him.

Internal set up from top to bottom to me needs a mass overhaul, this is why I don’t think even play offs is in our reach next season.
