I would guess that if the finances were there quite a number of players would , or soon would  be in discussions to try and agree to cancel contracts as they say “ by mutual consent”

Alas everything it seems to be coming down to is it affordable or will contracted player agree to walk.

Let’s just look at Vestergarrd. Is he planning for Leicester to be his last club? What is his domestic situation? Is he married does he have kids are they happy etc etc etc. Domestic circumstances will play massively into what he will want to do.

Thats before you even start to think about his finances and options.

We know he isn’t a Championship player, his legs have gone ( if he ever had any) his body like all players as they get older particularly those that are lumps are increasingly vulnerable. We have witnessed his demise he will know it better than any of us and the simple fact of the matter is he isn’t going to get a long term contract where even say a two year , no even possibly a three year deal will get what he will in the remaining year at LC.

Lastly you have the clubs options. This is where I really struggle to see what the way forward is .

I think we all would agree that no one’s going to come in offer a fee. Will he agree to go on loan ? Unlikely.

Let’s just suppose he is due £1.5 m for next season. When you add in things like his end of contract payments, the Nic costs etc he is going to cost circa £2 million . We don’t have any current knowledge of the numbers but does any one think Top has £2 million down the back of a sofa? Add to that , and I haven’t done the numbers there is still an element of amortisation to factor in

But he is just one player I am sure that there are four, five six ir more the club would want gone but the simple fact is the money ain’t there.particularly when you factor in that he will have to replaced and that will come at a cost.

Back for one second to Vestergarrd. I don’t think he will go ! He is a cart horse but cart horses , experienced ones at that may well just be what is needed in EFL1.

The trouble is knowing LC they are just as likely , if indeed he is to EFL 1 standard to offer an extension.

Great post. Some of our fans are living under a rock with their "tear up their contracts" views. The players are not fans. This is their job. There is no way that I would uproot my entire life and family to earn less money. He can see out his final year and earn ~£2.5m. Who can blame him?

I think he and some of our other high earning players would take the loan option if possible, just to get out of here and for the sake of what's left of their career.

Still unlikely though as no club will be willing to pay the ridiculously inflated wages that we have them on. So any loan deals would mean we are still paying a high percentage of their wages for the remainder of their contracts.

We're either stuck with them here or we pay heavily for them elsewhere.

Life under Top/Rudkin.

I thought on the whole, he did okay last night next to Souttar. If anything, Luke Thomas wasn’t as erratic.

I still prefer him to Okoli.

Long term. Surely it’s Nelson / Souttar to build the defence around next season though.

The problem with JV, apart from the obvious is the style of play, that stinks out every attack.  With that the rest of the team become lazy and bored.

If he was a grug brain CB that wants to get stuck in and keep the ball away from the defence then he would be worth keeping. He can’t do the basics on top of the shit style of play that causes more counters than attacks.

Aside from an opposition player scoring from being in behind him again. He is so slow to react. Shit excuse of a defender.

Southampton signed Vesty in 2018 against the advice of manager Mark Hughes and assistant Mark Bowen.

Theres a video somewhere of Bowen recounting the club owner showing them a video of Vesty in action.

Bowen said they watched it and concluded: "He can't run, he can't turn, he's okay at set pieces but not very good at that. "

Most goals are mistakes of some sort.

Okoli and Nelson have cost us more goals than Vestergaard this season.

We massively overpaid for him. Panic buy in reality due to the Fofana injury.

The mere thought that he would earn more sitting on his arse in a year than the club would get in prize money (reported as £2 million for 26/27) sums up how appallingly we've been mismanaged.

I wouldn't blame him either for the record. He's not the one who offered the contract... or chose to renew it off the back of one good season in the second tier.

Thats a comforting explanation but the reality is that BR spent twelve months trying to get him to join. Replacing Fofana with Vestergaard is like trading a Ferrari for a Fiat 500...

Always madness to give him that 3 year deal at his age, yes, he was important in an Enzo side and you could see why he was retained but its such a Leicester thing to do.

That's some panic buy getting him in a year before we sold Fofana.

Fofana got injured so we bought in this lump of shit.

Fofana sold so we bought in Faes.

Thats replacing Fofana with two players who shouldn’t even be fed his shit. Well done Rudkin

As he says though JVshite wasn't really a replacement for Fofana. He was wanted before and was then bought to cover.

Faes was the successor to Wesley's throne. And he's done a great job.

Fofanas career took a reet nose dive since too.  Cursed?

Souttar won't be here next season.  No chance.

Great. A get another year of seeing this to55pot stand on the ball, and then get beaten off the ball by children.

The same article that says we're after Martin also says Vestergaard is "expected to be sold" so perhaps not
