So this is a bit boring but via a vague work association I was told that when Dave Rennie was at Leicester he did a PhD about the new pitch turf, and found that as pitches have got harder there may be more injuries. The club funded him to look into this then for some reason replaced him with Glenn Driscoll.  I don’t know the full details but he was looking into it all before he left.

Has anyone seen Dave Rennie

Last seen running down the road with the report then disappeared.

in all seriousness though there has to be something like this going on with the pitch or something

I don't think they had so many serious injuries when they trained at Belvoir drive,  just a thought 🤔

ok but of that list:

James Justin - in a home match

Ricardo Pereira - in a home match

Will Alves - in an away match

Sammy Braybrooke -  in a match at seagrave

Fatawu - on international duty

Ben Nelson - in a home match

Stolarczyk - in a home match

only one has any connection with seagrave, and even then it wasn't one of the training pitches.

I suppose the assumption is that the long term exposure to the pitches is the problem, where the ACL happens isn't necessarily the cause. Not sure i see this if these are impact injuries though.

not really how it works though. Playing on artificial turf is a risk factor for an ACL, but it's not long term exposure to pitches that creates the risk, it's while you're playing on them, because it doesn't have the same give or cushioning that grass does, so it puts more force through your joints. the long term contribution is poor conditioning of the muscles in the leg.

I have no idea - im not a doctor :)

I don’t think we are cursed.

I’d suggest it’s got as much to do with modern football boots, as the pitch itself. How boots stick into the ground etc.

Then you consider players are more explosive and powerful, than maybe 20 years ago. Quicker turning, more pressing etc

I think the football world has seen an increase.

When you look at at Villa, since 2015, they’ve had about 10 players with ACL injuries as well.

I think as well especially with this one, had their forward not unnecessarily clattered into Jakub we’re not having this conversation.

I suspect Jacob will re-live this moment and wonder why he chose the body position he collected the ball with.

It looked awkward and a little unnatural, and set him up badly for impact, but 999 out of 1000 times it matters not a jot.

Horribly unlucky, and hope he recovers well

He probably didn’t expect their thug of a striker, to leave one on him TBF.

I know that it’s a contact sport, but he had no right going for that ball as he was never getting there before Jakub.

I think you should expect to get clattered as a keeper and you habitually collect the ball with a defensive body shape to make sure that any thug of a striker gets your knee firmly in his stomach.

I played a few games as a keeper and training for crosses was as much about defensive body shape as it was catching the ball.

Not always possible of course, and Stol’s approach route made it awkward, but having a foot on the floor, side on, on contact was an error that a coach would spot if it was training

Great points, I think professional keepers (especially Prem) expect more protection though, so probably don’t have the same thought process that Sunday league level keepers do.

Their striker was never getting to the ball and simply “left one on him”.

I hate VAR but reckon that the obvious big injury (easily avoidable) would have made VAR look at it, was completely unnecessary and reckless.

I’m sure that he was also late a couple more times before getting subbed off too, dosser!

It’s a great shame to lose someone so early in the season to a thug like that. There not place in the game for players like that.

There is a lot of debate regarding this but I'm not sure the evidence really backs up this claim. Though I believe recent studies have suggested that women footballers may well be greater impacted re ACLs in regard to artificial pitches. A quick google search on this subject comes up with many articles on the matter. For eg.

A study published by the lancet  in 2022 concluded

"The overall incidence of football injuries is lower on artificial turf than on grass. Based on these findings, the risk of injury can't be used as an argument against artificial turf when considering the optimal playing surface for football."

Table 2 in this link is interesting if you are looking a the comparison between ACL injuries on artificial turf and natural grass.

Yes, studs / blades locked into the turf.

Smashed into unnecessarily, has put all the pressure on the knee and it’s simply twisted.

It was intentional and Stolarkzyk looses 12 months of his career.

7 ACL injuries since 2020 does seem a lot. Is there any way of checking the numbers from other clubs?

According to AI, Forest have had 1 during this time period, Coventry 5!

Spurs have had loads in similar period I think, they’ve had 4 since 2025, and Hull is similar I believe

I so hate that 'insult'. Is it actually meant as an insult :dunno:

Fair enough.

It’s just a term for them TBF.

Edited though as no drama from me.
