Development/Youth Squads 2024/2025 Thread - U18/U21

We could conceivably have Stolarczyk, Thomas, Nelson, Braybrooke, Alves, Golding, McAteer, Evans and Monga in and around the first team squad which is outstanding work.

Monga showed in flash yesterday hes got something, wish manager would just have the balls to give these young lads a try more than 10 mins here or 2 mins there

I've seen very little of Evans but from everything I've heard, he excites me more than Monga. Looks to have everything you need to be first teamer.

We have the best facilities available for youth development so let's start relying on them rather than mercenaries and ageing journeyman. We just need more competent management to get the best out of them now.

I 100% think we should go along this route, it is the one area of the club where we seem to be ahead of most.of the clubs around us.

This is such an easy way to get fans back on side again. One thing that every football fans loves is seeing academy lads succeeding in the first team

This is only possibility happening cuz of relagation and they would have had no plan to bring these young lads through otherwise. This is why we lose talents

The worst thing the club could do now is sign 4 or 5 cheap players in their 30s to "fill out the squad" like Ayew and BDCR. 

 

The squad is there we need a handful of real quality players in key areas

Under-18s midfielder back after year out

One of City’s up-and-coming talents is back in action after nearly a year out.

Ryan Donnelly was signed by City from Dungannon Swifts two years ago after he’d made his senior debut in Northern Ireland aged just 16.

Last season, no player featured more often for City’s Under-18s, but right at the end of the campaign, Donnelly suffered an ACL tear.

After missing last summer’s Under-19 Euros in which Northern Ireland were hosts, and then spending the past 12 months in rehab, he’s now fit again.

The 18-year-old made his first start for City’s Under-18s in the weekend just gone, having made his comeback as a substitute a week earlier.

The matches didn’t go to plan though, with City losing 6-1 to Southampton on Saturday, having been thumped 7-0 by Spurs a week earlier.

Southampton have always had a strong academy setup.

Except for Leicester fans. Most of them hold academy players to higher standards and seem desperate for them to fail.

Lines on the pitch mate. I’m glad you stated the green though I thought you was getting onto something else there for a minute!

The golden era for our academy, need the bravery to blood them (when the time is right) and show them the pathway is to stay with us for the early part of their senior career at least.

100%, also need the right leaders and mentors around them to help them grow not the like of Coady, Vestergaard et al.

Jake Evans not even nominated despite being 1 goal behind the top scorer and by far the youngest player at the top of the scoring charts. Similar/better output to Nwaneri last year at the same age I believe who no doubt will have been nominated or even won this last year. Pathetic.

I know there was links to Man Utd the other day but seems like for whatever reason Evans seems to be going completely under the radar
