We have scored more goals than anyone in the bottom half, and a few teams in the top half. We have a good record in attack and have scored in every game. However, only Everton and Wolves are worse at the back than us, and if not for Mads we would have the most goals conceded imo. You could make a good argument that sorting out defensive organisation is more of a priority than trying to focus on playing more front foot and leaving yet more holes to exploit… especially given our place in the food chain these days, which is firmly at the foot of the table. Would snap your hand off for 17th any day, the gap between the leagues is a chasm now. 9

Yes, I know it didn't work out against Palace...

Yes, I know it didn't work out against Palace... Winks has been a massive disappointment for me, and his body language has been poor. Don’t hate the idea of 343. For the record I’m on the fence RE Cooper. We’ve been more competitive than I expected, and I think the reaction on here is massively over the top, but there are some clear problems. With the international break and IMO criminally slow transfer window, Cooper has had not very much time at all with the squad to build any sort of system, given until about a week before the window closed we didn’t have a single non-defensive midfielder, then key members of the squad fecked off on international duty. This next month now is absolutely key, without a few wins from this run, he’ll have to go to give us a chance to stay up id imagine. Some away games coming up at relegation rivals though, it will not be easy. Edited 29 September 2024 by FoxesWalk 4

Winks was already on a downward spiral, he wasn't getting in at Spurs and went on loan to a team that finished bottom of Serie A. He did well last season at a lower level in the perfect system for him but majority of Spurs fans would tell you you don't play Winks and Skipp together (it rarely ever happened). We of course will do, but it won't work.

Our games have been bizarre and the last thing we need is a more defensive line up. 1
Trav Le Bleu Posted 29 September 2024 Posted 29 September 2024 Serious question. Would you swap for Erik ten Hag? I would, but only to see Man U fans faces and hope that we immediately move EtH on too.

Vowels Posted 29 September 2024 Posted 29 September 2024 This is just like the Willis/carey/coatsworth debate. The answer is and always has been ‘ all three’

Ric Flair Posted 29 September 2024 Posted 29 September 2024 Those who still believe in him, out of interest were you still of the believe Shakespeare could turn it around in October 2017? and if so do you think that was the wrong decision to sack him? If Southampton win tomorrow we're pretty much in the exact same position when Vichai pulled the trigger. Albeit a couple of games more. 1

If you are efficient attackers and crap defenders then you focus on what you're good at, it's nonsensical to do otherwise. However, I don't think we are defensively poor per se, but he's picking defensive line ups but either not instructing them to be defensively disciplined or he's not capable of coaching them to do so. Either way it's a recipe for disaster. The stats don't make for good reading either. There's very little to be positive right now, what's frightening is we've actually got more points than our output suggests we should have. It's no coincidence our manager is a master at failing to win football games. He's statistically one of the worst Premier League managers for quite some time that's managed longer than a season at this level. Imagine going to Arsenal and picking a very defensive line up and then this positional pattern happening? It's suicidal. At least pick players who can take up those positions and hurt the opposition, we're towards the bottom in nearly every attacking metric, except for scoring goals from very few chances. 1
Old Fox Posted 29 September 2024 Posted 29 September 2024 Vichai would have pulled the trigger now although I doubt he would have overseen his appointment in the first place. We seem to have gone backwards massively despite an instant promotion as the ambition would be to really go for getting a tactical leader in who could outperform the ability in this squad rather than one that is sucking the life out of the team and all of us as fans - horrendous appointment and only made worse by the fact we won’t act !! 1

You might consider that kiwi fruit salad you treated yourself to for lunch exotic, but just think of the air miles!😱 And on the subject of tins... you can stick your spaghetti hoops up your bean hole!😜
Vowels Posted 29 September 2024 Posted 29 September 2024 I’ve spoken to my friend from Wellington ( he says no offence by the way) and he says he prefers blackjacks
Mickyblueeyes Posted 29 September 2024 Posted 29 September 2024 Quite interesting looking at the players posts on SM after the game. Vardy and Winks haven’t posted. Nothing from Abdul too. Stephy has posted without comment. It’s only Mads who has made a comment with a post. They’re losing faith in the fella. It’s lost.
don_danbury Posted 29 September 2024 Posted 29 September 2024 shakespear was sacking early october wasnt he? surely cooper has to go around that same time. pretty sure we had won a game with shakespear by now too
