Another “thing” ticked off the list of “this hasnt happened yet so can’t be a murderous, blood thirsty regime hell bent on genocide” argument.

Matt Gaetz has stood aside from Post of AG . Trump will have to find another druggy paedo for the role

The Trump team must have worked out not enough Repubs would support him. Perhaps there is some hope yet.

Have I got this right?

In the US, holders of important offices of state aren't elected, but, in rather monarchial style, appointed on the whim of the ultimate head of state?

Essentially the US president is an elected King? (was going to put /queen, but since it's apparent that it ain't going to happen any time soon, why bother.)

Great isn’t it . I get the impression this is all a massive p**s take . Check the footage of Trump jr openly using coke at a victory ceremony this week

What's going on with these ICBMs and the Ukraine conflict. How scared should I be.

On a scale of 1 - 10.

Really?

It seems to be escalating in scope - coupled with the Israel conflict there seems to be some real and sustained strife going on that might kick off majorly.

We visited the white house on our trip to the USA in 2018.

One of the things werealised as we waited with some of the other visitors was the absolute awe that the americans were displaying for the house and the politicians.

The ones we talked to had dressed in their sunday best, hair slicked down and collar and tie for the men/boys, perfect coif and below knwee length dresses/skirts for women/girls.

They spoke of politicians and the president particularly in the same way the ardent monarchists talk of royalty in the uk.

Given the way most aussies (and brits that i can tell) talk about politicians and the "esteem" in which they hold them... to hear these people worship was mindboggling.

On a scale of 1 - 10.

They’re not technically ICBMs, it was a mid-range ballistic missile. And they informed the USA (briefly) before they fired it.

In the short term, I don’t see Putin doing anything extreme. He will ramp up the rhetoric, terror, and level of attacks but he’s both winning (kind of) and a US President is about to take office who clearly wants to get the hell out of there. Meanwhile I’m not really sure what else the West can offer Ukraine other than volume of equipment so it’s hard to see where our further “escalation” comes from.

Medium term, I think the possibility of a magical Trump deal is looking less optimistic by the day. I just reckon around February he’ll put Putin’s “terms” to Ukraine, Ukraine will reject them, then Trump will wash his hands of it and leave Russia to take ever more of Ukraine, maybe even in a short timescale.

Which leaves long term, and the ball in Putin’s court. I don’t believe he would press on immediately because the war has been damaging to Russia and he’ll likely want to reflect, rebuild and concentrate on law and order in Russia and what used to be Ukraine. After that, a few years down the line, who knows. Depends whether he feels he’s achieved his legacy or is hungry for more. Watch this space, in particular Russian military spending compared to European military spending and the future of the NATO alliance.

The Israel conflict meanwhile could be utterly miserable for the Middle East but shouldn’t directly affect our security as it stands other than potentially increasing the possibility of Islamic terrorism. The bigger worry there I think would be any party waving nukes around, because I’m not completely convinced one of Israel and Iran wouldn’t hurl one at the other. Again, not directly about us but setting an incredibly concerning precedent. Again, Trump will likely want to shorten the conflict, which could be terrible for Palestine and Palestinians but a shorter conflict would likely be safer for the rest of the world.

*I know that’s not a number but that’s how I see the situation.

I doubt either side would deliberately start a nuclear war, even Putin, but there is always scope for mistakes when tensions are high and Putin is launching ICBMs I’d have thought. Would the yanks know it wasn’t nuclear armed? Would they know where it’s headed?

Edit: Just noticed the post from @Dunge clarifying, stand down. Still somewhat alarming though.

It’s actually not a bad idea when you think about it, allows people to be appointed on merit and their respective accolades. Pretty sure they need senate approval

I honestly feel like i'm stuck in the middle screaming into a void.

I've got the crazies on the right thinking everyone risking their life to cross the channel is  free loading terrorist and shooting them on sight would instantly solve all of the country's problems.

I've got the nutters on the left who believe that every pensioner/farmer is a cash rich millionaire, every business is making Amazon like profits and should be paying their employees £50k plus for working from home for 15 hours a week, whilst absorbing the extra tax burden the government is hitting them with.

I have good news and bad news.  The bad news is you are right.  The good news is most people are in the middle with you, despite what the extremes try to tell you about anyone not in their bubble.

The thing with Trump now is that the senators don't really need to kiss his ring anymore (as much). He is a 1 and done guy now because he can't run again.

He will be irrelevant by midterm as people will be wondering who will run for the leadership.  Obviously cock boy Vance will, unless of the the juniors decide they wanna bush it.

Might be interesting to see if the senators (and perhaps non maga loving house politicians) push back on trump for certain things
