Imagine if they lose that UECL qualification play-off. Their European tour ended by a WiFi password before the kids are back at school.

This would make my year 😂

It honestly couldn't happen to a more deserving set of fans. Giving it large all year about their first good season in thirty years and pretending they're back where they've deluded themselves they think they belong, only to get dumped out of the third tier European competition at the first hurdle by Astana.

Of course, if the FA cup winner didn’t get a spot in the Europa League, and they won it (hahaha) whilst finishing in the bottom half, and a team in 7th got the place over them they’d be kicking off about that.

Everyone knows the FA cup winner gets a European spot, it’s happens every year, it’s not conspiracy against the ‘world famous reds’ (tm). Suck.It.Up

Would love to go to work, the next day, and say ‘put your passports away lads’. Love it

It's such a bizarre mentality they have. They seem to think the footballing world revolves around a club nobody outside Nottinghamshire had any reason to remember existed for forty years. Victim mentality mixed with the absolute certainty they're only ever a season away from bringing back the glory days.

Intrigued to see how Sky manage to squeeze in these extra 80+ games with 9 (maybe 10?) teams in Europe next year lol

Sunday games are about to become a lot more popular.

Probably a lot more Sunday 12pm/7pm games...

They are allowed to show all the ones at 2pm next season which will help .

I want full on Celtic or Rangers banter losses to the likes of Lincoln Red Imps or Progres Niederkorn. The kind of embarrassment that will have even neutrals laughing.

Don't tease that'd be comedy gold. To add, imagine if that team is Dundee United or Aberdeen.

First time in Europe since the Internet was invented and you're only away trip involves travelling to Scotland 🤣.

That said imagine the narrative they'd spin if they were to face Aberdeen, 'This is what European football should be about, European super giants facing off against each other. Don't see that in the CL' 🤣

What happens to Forests European hopes after Palace won the FA Cup?

Had Manchester City won it, they'd have been pretty much guaranteed at least Europa League. They're now more likely to have to settle for Conference.

Seems like Chelsea have a lot of influence in proceedings...

How else can clubs make it to Europe?

So far, so simple. But things rarely play out as such.

In addition to booking European berths by virtue of domestic performances, clubs can also do so through their showings in Europe.

The performance of Chelsea in the Conference League, coupled with their final league position, could benefit another team.

Chelsea sit in fourth in the Premier League, four points ahead of seventh-placed Forest, who have a match in hand, with the two sides facing each other on the final day. Chelsea will play Real Betis in the final of the UEFA Conference League in Wroclaw, Poland on 28 May.

Depending on where Chelsea finish, their performance in the final could directly influence eighth place.

By rights, the winners of the Conference League get a place in the Europa League. If Chelsea beat Betis and finish inside the top five, there will be no change to the allocation. Chelsea will qualify for the Champions League and no other Premier League team will get their Europa League place for winning the Conference League.

UCL - PL top five, UEL winner
UEL - PL sixth, Crystal Palace (FAC)
UCoL - N/A

But if Chelsea win the Conference League and finish sixth and Newcastle finish in seventh, or Chelsea win the Conference League and Chelsea finish seventh, the Premier League gets an extra team in the Europa League, and 10 in Europe, according to ESPN's Dale Johnson.

This would also mean that HALF the Premier League would be playing in Europe next season.

UCL - PL top five, UEL winner
UEL - PL seventh, Crystal Palace (FAC), Chelsea (UCoL)
UCoL - PL eighth

For the clubs looking to finish eighth - Bournemouth, Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion and Fulham - the performance of Chelsea is now their only chance of playing in Europe next season. They are the only team who could win a European title and finish in a position to cause this drop down.

In this scenario, we also need to assume Newcastle have finished inside the top six to allow their UCoL place from winning the EFL Cup to drop down to the eighth-placed team.

So the teams vying for eighth still have some work to do as they head into their remaining Premier League matches. The only head-to-head match within the quartet is on 18 May, when Fulham visit Brentford in a west London derby.

There's something really grotesque about Alan Shearer writing an opinion piece calling the richest owners in football buying a trophy an "underdog" story.
