I have zero issue with developing VK as our starting left back and letting him grow and improve - if he's got a proper LW in front of him. If we're persisting with this notion of him being the main attacking width on the left whilst someone (BEK) in front of him cuts in to join the 'box', I don't think he'll ever be good enough personally. To the extent I think it's an unfair ask, I just don't think it's the best use of his strengths. 1
JimmyC74 Posted 9 December 2024 Posted 9 December 2024 With Ricky P out for a long time and if we are going to return to inverted full backs, then a new right back is needed.
LFEFox23 Posted 9 December 2024 Posted 9 December 2024 Right Wing Left Back Striker Centre Half Right Back In that order aswell. 1

LVFox Posted 9 December 2024 Posted 9 December 2024 I'd much rather we just went really big on a right back and a centre half, than bought in 5 or 6.

I agree, although we do need that many players still overall. But am of the idea of buy players that massively improve starting 11 and push the other players to the bench. Signing skipp and okoli for like £35 Million to sit on the bench makes no sense. I think we currently need minimum 3 quality premier league standard players in that starting 11 thats a CB RB and attacking Wide Man/forward Edited 9 December 2024 by les-tah
jayfox26 Posted 9 December 2024 Posted 9 December 2024 We need 2-3 defenders and a right winger to replace Fatawu. Can't see us having the finances to sign too many good players on permanents but where do we stand with loans? Can we loan from abroad as i assume our prem loans are taken up with Buonanotte and Edouard?

Can someone fact check this?
alanf0x Posted 9 December 2024 Posted 9 December 2024 The right side is the main priority now. Too many chances conceded down the right and McAteer not strong enough to beat Premier League full backs. A quick CB and young promising striker to learn from Vardy would be ideal, but not prioritised over the above. No doubt Rudin will be advising a couple of goalkeepers required though
Ric Flair Posted 9 December 2024 Posted 9 December 2024 I think Calvin Stengs ends up here in January on loan with an obligation to buy if we stay up. 1

Think we could do with a winger who is a bit more direct. El Khannouss and Buonanotte already provide the guile and close control in tight spaces.

kingfox Posted 9 December 2024 Posted 9 December 2024 Mentioned this lad last week on the random players thread. Bit of a long read, but a good thread on him here, the exact profile we need on the wings. 1
Scotch Posted 9 December 2024 Posted 9 December 2024 I think, who comes in will probably depend on who goes out. We need someone in almost every position but are pretty full in all of them. Yes, we need a LB but have Thomas and VK so will probably need Thomas to go. Same with RB and maybe JJ or Ricarso going. Hamza would prob need to go for a CM to come in and maybe french Eddy's loan being terminated for a striker. But I would say, even if no-one left, it would prob be a LB and a winger as priorities.

I'd personally be looking to do that on the right side and get a better RB. LWers are much more common as easier to buy than RWers. I'd be trying to do a deal with Newcastle over Barnes. It's going to be interesting to watch this window, RVN giving us more pulling power over someone like Cooper! Edited 9 December 2024 by coolhandfox

Please god no more expensive players. The reason we got relegated in the first place is because we only bought players for £15mil+ and couldnt shift them if they didnt work out. I'm not sure the £20mil market is actually better than the £10mil market either.

It's going to be interesting to watch this window, RVN giving us more pulling power over someone like Cooper! I doubt Barnes will ever be back here unless he's 35 and we're in the Championship tbh. I think with the current two options, I'd rather BEK be central and have Facundo cut in than visa versa. Facu is a better ball carrier and dribbler and I think Bilal is a better playmaker. I also think our right back options are better attackers than VK. Plus, like you say, should be slightly easier to find a quality right footed LW just by law of averages. Only way I'd swap it round and have BEK start at LW now is if Fatawu were fit. If Mavididi was in better form then I'd be after a 6 as the main priority, a proper all rounder, quality modern 6 that can both attack and defend. Unfortunately, he isn't. 1

Comparing Kristiansen with Van Aanholt, neither are the most dynamic and skilful of left-backs. Kristiansen is currently averaging pretty much the same amount of dribbles that Van Aanholt was averaging at PSV. Many, myself included felt a LB was a must in the summer. The way RVN has adopted Kristiansen though, going forward his strengths clearly are making overlapping runs and producing early crosses, look at the passage of play for Justin’s chance in the first half yesterday for example. If Kristiansen keeps producing moments like that, then RVN may well stick with the current system. Whatever materialises though, a combination of RB/RCB + LB(Depending what we do with Thomas) or RB + LCB/LB is an absolute must in January. Edited 9 December 2024 by kingfox 4
