Yet to find one example of when anyone has ever credited this attitude with keeping them up.

The Cup's a free hit to breed a winning mentality again.

This, basically.

Losing at home to Swansea City or away at Portsmouth would just further reinforce the sense of inertia and doom.

The third round game is just before the home games against Palace and Fulham, games where a confident side could build a bit of momentum and look like we still have some fight in us.

I can't imagine a second string beating Fleetwood 3-0 in front of 19k at the KP would breathe fresh life around the training ground. The win against Tranmere earlier this season did nothing.

Liverpool away please

Yeah that would be perfect. A nice 5 nil defeat would certainly help to build confidence.

They had 30 mins against 10 men to get through. If anything id say its a positive side of the removal of replays.

not sure you understand the concept of league one level v non league. fitter players and a deeper level of talent on the bench is obviously going to win out over a longer period of play irrespective of being a man down. they matched them in 90 minutes, you may not be aware but the vast majority of games teams play end after normal time.

Well yeah, but losing in those circumstances would certainly make things worse.

It's also a bit miserable as well. Can never understand giving up a potential cup run just to give us better chance of treading water in the Premier League.

I just about understand the concept thanks lol

Given the option of 45 minutes against 10 men including a good sprinkling of youngsters. Or facing a stronger team of 11 for 90, I'd take option 1 every day of the week. Especially given 5 of the players had only played in 1 half.

Obviously it's subjective, but if Coalville were in that position I'd have wanted extra time rather than a replay.

Yeh defo.

The idea of replays is out of date anyway for all but a unique number of ties. For every Harborough v Reading you've got about 17 Cambridge v Grimsby matches infront of 200 people and reserve players. As good as a Papa Johns trophy match at that stage. They should set up a solidarity/insert marketing gimmick name here fund whereby non-league teams get loads of money from the cup revenues, instead of having to earn it with another pointless match.

Or at least a replay if both teams agree to it beforehand

I dunno, being knocked out would definitely help them concentrate on winning the league.

ok, so losing to Fleetwood 3-0, would that improve morale or would it just further a sinking feeling around the club?

They aren't going to lose 3-0 to Fleetwood at home. Mental gymnastics.

yes, you are doing mental gymnastics to avoid the point. going out early is not beneficial to team and fan morale and doesn't help you stay up

More mental gymnastics. What you describe above is not what I said. You have simply made this point up during your session in the mental gymnastics world championships

assuming literacy is not your strong point, it's what was being discussed and what you replied to.

Highly ironic you use 'assume' in your post given you've clearly learned that during your mental gymnastics training.

My point - beating Fleetwood 3-0 will not breathe fresh life into our season and/or precipitate a winning run, as shown by Tranmere.

What you think my point is - going out early is beneficial to the team.

Mental gymnastics. Work it out if you are able.
