I blame the late queen mother

You can joke about it but actually the death of HRH Queenie Liz coincides with our downfall....

I work for the NHS other Trusts they pay staff early like final weekend before xmas. Except the trust I work for where it's still last working day of the month, despite requests from staff to the chief exec. His response as always was "no". He's okay on his 80k or 90k a year or whatever.

There is just too much out there to not be concerned.

Look at what has come out.

1. Email 1: Payroll advising of Decembers payment day.

2. Email 2: MD emailing of revised date with apologies.

3. a 10 year tradition (around the same time of KP ownership.

4. Same HR director ?

A payment that has gone on for so long it is embedded practice for that to be changed a day before is not normal - there is an underlying issue here that has trigger that decision at C level. You cant see it any other way. And to further confirm that, its the MD putting themselves in the firing line not the automated/payroll person. I mean its not even HR sending the email.

This points to one thing - what the hell has triggered this decision. What has triggered to such a level that the MD is writing the payment notification - apologising because they know the impact - and despite knowing the impact, still choosing to do it (or having to do it). I mean we all insult their intelligence but they know full well this is going to be a case shit hitting the fan. You don't just decide in the December board meeting to change a 10 year tradition that you've probably introduced without good reason. You don't decide to do it unless there was a need for the conversation to discuss what is now classed as a  routine business process.

All this other stuff that has happened in the last 4/5 years - yes, let it piss you off. Find some reason for it. Blame the league. Blame PSR. Blame the PL. The cartel etc. etc. Absolutely. This though - yeah it is perfectly understandable to be worried and concerned. We are in deep shit financially.

Yeh and it’s end of the month? That’s their contract.

They’ve never been told they’re getting paid early this month?

I am not sure why people would start changing direct debits etc… for one month based on an assumption they would get paid early for this month only.

There is no way they had never been told they were being paid early this month. If that was the case, this latest email would not have caused a stir. Your pay date is not and never will be an assumption, unless you go to work for fun and don't need the money. It's the most important part of the month for myself and hundreds of millions of other working people across the world.

I bring forward DDs (not mtg, utilities but things like investments, credit cards) for the day after pay date. There is no reward for keeping money in a current account, I sweep it all out immediately as do countless of my friends.

That interim MD hire is working out as well as most predicted then? Horrible way to treat your employees, most of whom will have made plans based on a promise broken at the 11th hour. An absolute PR disaster for the club too with the fanbase now fearing we're on the verge of doing a Wednesday. What a shambles!

Didn't we borrow against the parachute payment to pay the bills, last season?

I think we took loans out against future premier league payments too, around the time we signed Viktor Kristiansen.

I remember at where my dad was working the staff pay day was missed, the manager came out on the shop floor and said "really sorry guys, human error something was wrong with the data figures, all been fixed and should be paid within the next couple of days" and they were and that was a much smaller company.

First team got paid, of course.

I cannot wait to see what kind of contract we offer Antonio after this snafu.

Be nice gesture if the players donated some their wages to make sure the staff get paid and then get it back after Christmas.

It gets even better. “Monica” set up an email address for staff to contact to beg for a loan.

Best Regards from our newest Director.

KP OUT.

The email said nothing about any loan or help

I don't know where this info is coming  from

It literally said on the last emailed wage slip from previous month that we would be paid on the 19th December

Probably a stupid question but what's the general mood been like today? Horrific?

I reckon the good folks in Leicester should turn up to the stadium tomorrow with goods like tinned food like soup and meat beans etc dried pasta, biscuits and packaged cakes, crisps, drink cans , squash, tea & coffee packs, pet food for pets etc for the staff and players who will be so pleased for the donations 👏🏼

Ultimately the club never communicated they would get paid early. That’s my understanding anyway.

People made an assumption based on previous years.

But they did , there were told in writing that December pay would be on the 19th

Same, one month in 2012 when I just started working we got told the day before that pay date will be missed due to human error. We were told that if we were out of pocket (e.g. missed a direct debit because no funds in your account or opportunity cost of missed interest) you could make a claim and the company would make you whole. I made a claim and it got paid no questions asked.

I think people are underestimating how important pay day is.

Calm the fvck down everyone.

They get paid at the end of the month. Will be the same this month too. Just paid before christmas as the gap is massive.

Certainly not anywhere remotely near Sheffield Wednesday. Behave.

Ok Top, hope your loan comes in time to at least pay them by the new year.

I work in manufacturing (no risk of life etc from IT issues) but Payroll is the one system that is truly a 'P1' support desk priority

Interesting. That has always seemed like too much effort for us so my wife and I get paid on Monday but as far as we are concerned, that in January’s money and we don’t touch it until bill go out and we are into January. It’s the same reason I have never bought into the ‘long January’ thing as you get paid the same amount each month and it’s a case of budgeting.

So whilst I condemn the clubs actions and wonder why they can’t manage to make the payment etc, I have said from previous work in the social housing sector, it always concerns me if people are using essentially January’s salary and spending this in December because what about January? But my concern there comes more from personal experience of people who would spend January’s rent on Christmas and then be in arrears and debt as a result. I hadn’t considered people would just bring bills forward to be fair. Presumably you could get any charges from the bank overturned by evidencing your employer were t**ts?
