I am pretty sure he was linked when Cooper was assembling his must have premier league experience recruitment list so hopefully it’s an old and lazy link.

We've had Vestegaard who was a really poor signing but now quite key. BDR is weird one. Ayew, if use correctly (which at the moment, he isnt) could be quite useful. You then have the waster, Bertrand. Upson a few years ago wasnt great. Ryan Bennett, the less said the better. Skipp, at this moment is very much a flop. 

 

However, you can also add on the other side of the argument, Huth and Albrighton who were excellent. Simpson was very good. Nathan Dyer filled a role. I know he gets a lot of flack but he did have 4 (?) seasons here and part of a good team, Ayoze Perez. Winks in the PL needs to up his standards to the standards he has set himself but a good player. 

 

Its a mixed bag (I dont know if I have missed anyone), the thing is, of the ones who have done the best (Albrighton, Huth, Dyer, Simpson) each was a signing which didnt tie us down for a long time (initially) and each had a point to prove. Guys like Bertrand, BDR etc. arguably dont - its a last pay day. There is definitely a role for the PL experience, we just dont always get it right.

hate to say it, but if a  a player is going to be courted by us and by a top 6 club,  he’s going to choose a top 6 club.  Even if he’s courted by us and the likes of Brentford, Brighton or Villa.. he’ll choose them over us. He’s likely to go to the likes of Spurs or Man U over us too

 

We are in the relegation Zone. We have financial problems. We are NOT  an attractive opposition. I don’t think it’s us choosing the market we are shopping in,  I think we are shopping in the only market that is available to us. This is not a game of football manager. We can’t just buy a bunch of wonderkids and improve our fortunes. In fact, as it appears with Monga. Any wonderkids we have are likely to go in the other direction.  
 

The next few years are likely to be a long hard slog.

Right let's look past the next 5 months.

 

It's summer 2025. We've now got Matt Targett on the books for the next 3 years who will be taking up a squad space as nobody in their right mind is going to sign him from us.

 

Is he going to strengthen us, nope. Is he going to cost a lot of money in wages? Almost certainly. 

 

I advise either waiting till the summer or signing a player that will improve the first 11. Let's not fill the squad up with bang average players who are earning more than they will earn anywhere else. We're literally just coming out the other side of that.

 

We've seen how devastating this tactic is and yet we're just jumping straight back into it

Just to add, I don’t think the news breaking of  us having potentially broken PSR rules ‘again’ being released just before the window opened was any coincidence. I think there’s people around who took it badly that we evaded sanctions previously. That sort of thing isn’t going to help either.

Half of our title-winning back 4 were signed at that age Huth (30), Fuch (29)

 

Huth was unwanted by Stoke.

217 career appearances and he is pushing 30. Only 2 seasons where he has played more than 20 league games.

 

Not a good record.

Im by no means VK’s biggest fan but Howe has preferred a CB or RB at LB for Newcastle over this Villa reject.

If we can't then don't just sign players for the sake of it is my argument.

 

A player should either come in with scope to improve or they should be able to slot into the first 11. If you need temporary cover for injuries use the loan market.

 

Really simple criteria that'll stop you being stuck with a mass of dead wood.

I am not a MT fan but there is a lot of value to be found in the over 30s if you can get the right ones.

 

The problem is for every Fuch there is a Bertrand. 

 

Still think this is a Cooper target, not a RVN.

This alone should be case closed for anyone involved with our recruitment process. That tactic hasn’t worked, the results of that are plain for all to see.
 

In fact, they should have Steve Cooper’s recruitment list plastered all over the training ground and the KP like the old Wild West “WANTED” posters, and every player on there should be banned from entering for life!
