So random thread to start, but couldn't find one that suited. I didn't think Rudkin Out thread was appropriate.

Has anyone got any recommendations for TVs. I've not bought one for 5 years and Im thinking I need a new one. Going for 65". I'm not wanting to spend £1k, something cheaper.

Any recommendations? Make, model? It'll be used for general TV, watching Leicester lose and casual gaming by the kids (8 years old) on the Switch.

I've looked online and I didn't realise there were so many models, versions of more or less the same thing! So wanted people's experience and recommendations to help.

I've got a 43" Samsung at the mo and it's time for a change.

Also, is Richer Sounds still the place to go?

This is my go to place for tele reviews as, like you said, it's a bloody minefield.

For under 1K and wanting a 65 inch, you cant go wrong with a decent Hisense TV.  Yes they are slightly behind screens made by samsung etc, but the tradeoff in price is worth it.   They are extremely good value for money

Rudkin would sell your 65" ULED tv for £50 and buy you a 14" grainy black and white Matsui for £200

You're better off putting that money into a global equity tracker and getting some fresh air and exercise.

No idea what that is?! lol

Don't worry, I do my fair share of exercise and fresh air.

48 inch LG OLED AI C4 4K Smart TV 2024 - OLED48C44LA.AEK | LG UK - Richer Sounds are doing it for 950 with a 150 off promo code until Feb.

If you're willing to spend 1k though, I'd save another 200 and get the 55".  Bigger is not necessarily better either.  A 55" is ample big enough from a distance of 2-3 metres so I wouldn't go 65".

You can't go wrong with an LG OLED.

Thinking about buying a cheaper model, say between £300- £500 and purchasing the monthly cover for if/when they let me down.

Good idea or should i just cough up and pay BIG money for something thats going to provide years of good service?

Last summer I spent £430 on a 50" LG from John Lewis, so I got the 5 year warranty.  It replaced a similarly priced Samsung which had pretty much lost its Smart functionality as it was a decade old and couldn't support the modern apps.

It's not wildly impressive but the interface and speed etc is good for the money. I'm not sure how much extra future proofing you get if you spend significantly more

Was going to write similar. The screen isn't as crisp as your 600+ TVs, but unless you are after that perfect image or have the eyesight to see it perfectly, the amount you save and the quality you still get it's definitely worth it. Think we have a 50' ISH from them and can't complain

Nah, too much risk of buying close to a peak. Better to drip feed monthly purchases, then you buy more units when price is low (and vice versa). Do it via an iSA and get tax benefits!

Agree with fresh air and exercise. Plus learn new recipes to cook at home.

Massively second getting it from Richard Sounds. Check their clearance.

Last year I managed to pick up a 58" Phillips Ambilight as a gaming TV for less than £400 simply because Phillips had a newer version of the model coming out, and I signed up to their VIP which gets you further money off. Had to go to their store to get it, but it was a great deal.

Their customer service is great, and also have a lowest price guarantee I think.

I had a small telly from Richer Sounds that developed a fault that couldn't be fixed five years into the six year warranty and they basically gave me  back the original cost of it to put towards a replacement. I can't believe they always do this, they wouldn't still be in business, but it's a good example of how good their customer service is

Go and get the LG C3 or C4 if you can, there will be deals on the C3 coming up.as the C4 is released.

Head down to Costco and get a membership if you can, often good offer and warranty is really good (5 years)

I would say Richer Sound or John Lewis, both offer excellent warranties and customer service, in my opinion.

Just a thought on your existing TV: If it is still in good order but the apps are no longer supported - as is the case with our TV, just add a firestick. Doing this bought my still excellent TV, bang up to date.

There is, of course, Freely TV available. Perhaps best get a TV with that included. It is possible, even probable, that eventually all TV will be delivered by Internet and not an aerial and/or satellite.

Personally I'd go LG for TV's. I've never had an issue and they make a lot of parts for other TV's/tech.

We've gone from being all Samsung to all LG and the latter have had the edge reliability wise

I must say I've never had a Samsung TV, I was Sony till LG.

Had Samsung phones for maybe 10 years now though, again with no problems.
