Tbh I think the UK should take a leaf out of a soon-to-be-announced Trump policy and authorise the use of tactical nuclear weapons to secure the border.

A 100 Million Kelvin welcome should serve as a good deterrent.

I don't like Kelvin

If only we were part of some sort of agreement that meant we could turn them around and deport them back to the last country they came from.

It is a ridiculous temperature scale for almost everything apart from elemental science, it's true.

Trump is going to be so pi**** about the ukraine bombing today. Can’t wait to see his next big tweet. It will be all in capital letters and blame Zelenskyy for every thing at least 15 times  and say Russia was about to agree to end the war until this happened or some nonsense

They all think this is the land of milk and honey, free housing, benefits, cash in hand jobs where they pay no tax maybe open up more Turkish barbers as we don't seem to have that many! . Its the ever increasing risk to women and young girls that I fear for as its mainly young men.

There illegal until they claim asylum.

They claim asylum immediately on arrival. If they don't then yes they would become illegal, but as I say the asylum process starts immediately. 99% of those that arrived in small boats claimed asylum in 2024. 36816 people arrived in boats in 2024, only 368 skipped asylum.

So are they being put up hotels and given free money, or are they being given free houses and starting their own businesses? I'm never sure which complaint is the trend each week lol

They asylum process starts immediately, of which 99% of them do. Unless you have an issue with someone standing in a queue lol

Reports of deaths and injuries 'false and fabricated' - Gaza Humanitarian Foundationpublished at 11:11

11:11Breaking

The BBC has just received a response from the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation following reports that dozens were killed after Israeli tanks opened fire near an aid centre in Rafah.

"It is false and fabricated. All aid was distributed today without incident," the GHF says, adding that there have been no injuries or fatalities.

"We have heard that these fake reports have been actively fomented by Hamas. They are untrue and fabricated."

As we've mentioned, our colleagues at BBC Verify are trying to establish the facts and we'll bring you the latest information as soon as we get it.

The same "Gaza Humanitarian Foundation" (in reality nothing of the sort) backed by both Israel and the US?

They're about as reliable, credible and impartial as "Comical Ali" was for Saddam Hussein.

So by this logic a tourist is illegal until they can show their right to entry a country on arrival? The only difference is what the person in question has to prove they have the right to stay?

That's got nothing to do with illegal immigration and everything to do with organised crime (though not specifically or exclusively Turkish hairdressers).

Not illegal if they claim asylum. They are called asylum seekers.

Either way it’s still a massive problem that seems to be getting worse not better.

Smashing the gangs though thankfully.

It needs to be the gangs that are targeted rather than the actual immigrants.

Essentially the slave traders of the 21st century.

Any argument about immigration control that doesn't include a workable plan to address the root causes of why it occurs now (and why there may well be much, much more in the future) is either well-meaning but ultimately massively ineffective, or flat-out accepting the death and suffering of a very large amount of human beings so long as the arguers "tribe" can go on living life in the comfort they now inhabit.

Climate change, the global distribution of wealth and war. Parts 1 & 3 are inextricably connected to part 2.

Then you have part 4 the entrepreneurs who exploit this, sell fantasies to the desperate. Very few people actually want to leave their homeland. If you could somehow make these countries more comfortable and generally safer, bingo! Mass immigration/emmigation sorted.

But you’re kicking the can down the road because as Mac continually bangs on, CC will make many of these countries largely uninhabitable within a few decades.

Yep, that's about right.

Unfortunately addressing these are long term projects which, without consensus, tend to struggle within shorter term democratic systems.

Another thing I like to emphasise is that it's not "will", not yet, it's "may". The window is shrinking, but there is still time to stop that outcome from occurring.

But yes, if we can't, won't or don't, any other measure will be kicking the can down the road, exactly as you say.

I think we’re past that point already for swathes of the globe, north and south of the equatorial regions and especially areas away from oceans.
