Very true

Can't stand even seeing a pic of the Southport killer in the same way I cant stand seeing a pic of Lucy Letby.

Of course, but I think a huge problem is that since the summer of 2020, after George Floyd's death in the US, we've imported lots of American talking points on race - the problems of 'whiteness' and white on black violence in the UK. A lot of people resent that and are very quick to push back the other way when something like Southport happens.

US doesn't need Canadian energy or cars, says Trump

It's ironic that the UN hq is in a country that wants nothing to do with the rest of the world.

For someone apparently keen to limit the ascendancy of China on the world stage, his actions sure do look like ones that preclude them stepping into the fold as world leaders on several global matters.

Imagine upping your military spending for a generational Cold War 2 situation with Russia only to have your biggest land mass and natural resources invaded and looted by your most important ally.

I don't suppose Trump has considered why Canadians don't want to be part of the US either in the past or now

I was thinking about Denmark which in combination with your comment makes Trump look even worse!

This very informed expert appears to suggest that if Trump-Putin talks fail to reach an agreement, Putin will likely invade NATO territory and declare WW3.

We’re also doing a test of the nationwide alert system again. While it’s used for weather, it’s obvious that its true dark purpose will be as an air raid/missile warning system. These are very very dark times.

Not a massive fan of the concept of the Vatican, but the Pope seems to be one of the world leaders I agree with most these days which definitely hasn’t always been the case, and I agree with him a lot in this article. If nothing else, I completely agree that the American Christian Right is often inherently unchristian.

The American Fundamentalist Christian Right (fixed it for you!) . Who believe they are right about everything with no compromise. They are not just unchristian but are inherently unhinged and dangerous.

Seeing Rachel Reeves scramble round making the most un-Labour of economic changes - reducing benefits and reducing taxes on the wealthy and saying growth is more important than climate change while refusing to budge on rejoining the single market, showing that growth at all costs clearly doesn’t mean growth at all costs is depressing.

I think uk is just completely ****ed economically though. Like it’s not just that the money just isn’t there, but it’s that’s there’s  genuinely absolutely nothing any government could do to even help get the economy back on track.

Genuinely feel like we have the same conditions as the Weimar Republic and the same metaphorical powder keg waiting to go off right now sadly.

As an example, I have friends (who both own their own businesses) who genuinely believe the furlough scheme was irresponsible and that those who lost jobs or were laid off were leeches on our economy who didn't deserve furlough payments. No doubt there were some, but can you imagine the impact on the majority who would now be on the benefits cycle?

Isn’t our age disparity one of our main problems? Like we’ve never had so many economically inactive people and those people obviously cost the state an unprecedented amount in pension and healthcare costs?

Yep and it’s something I’ve said many times on this forum many times . That Population ageing is one of the two greatest challenges of this century along with climate change and we’re already seeing its impact in profound ways as states cannot economically support their ageing populations more and more. But at least politicians actually talk about climate change, they don’t even want to talk about population ageing, let alone deal with it, because by definition it’s telling a larger and larger swathe of the population that they’re too expensive for the state, and it’s way easier politically to blame economic problems all on immigrants and benefits scroungers.

Especially as that population are the most politically active too. You saw the uproar with the winter fuel payment, any decision which affects older generations will lead to the government tanking at the next election.

Boris Johnson was the only one who has addressed however I don’t think letting Covid rip through the older population was ever that ethical.

And yet we've known about both for decades. The failure to act for so long is inexcusable.
