Just seen that Marcelo has retired from professional football. Remember when he was a deadline day rumour here lol

How are others doing these days that may well have donned the blue and white (and gold) in a different reality? :sweating:

Charles Aranguiz always comes to mind - turned us down the season we won the league I think.

As did Jordan Veretout, I seem to remember him saying in an interview he chose Villa over Leicester because he wanted to join a club with bigger ambitions and potential, they finished bottom 15/16….

I always used to get excited whenever Danny Murphy's name popped up. Can't remember if he was at, or had recently left, Spurs or Fulham but there was a time when his name was about. Would have been quality.

Didn't Bakary Sako do the same to join Palace?

David Beckham, he was linked to coming almost every day Sven was manager. To be fair Sven, did try to bring him and Becks may have been tempted... if wasn't for Victoria...

Tim Cahill was being linked I think around 2012, I think Cahill was like 33 or summit. I believe Everton were eyeing up Andy King, I think they may have a part exchange deal involved. For some reason deal fell through. Either Cahill got injured or didn't want to come.

Robbie Brady and Michael Keane summer 2016, as if that window could have been any worse than it already was.

Dwight McNeil for ages until he went to Everton.

Loic Remy Jan 16, and that Italian/Brazillian striker as well (Eder?), remember a lot of people stressing when that window shut in case Vardy got injured at some point.

When were we linked with him?

https://whatculture.com/sport/10-players-you-didnt-know-nearly-signed-for-leicester-city

Nigel Pearson might have compared new signing Andrej Kramaric to "something between Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski", but at one point in 2009 Leicester might have had the real thing as they sought promotion from the Championship. This all transpired the season before he moved to Borussia Dortmund as he became top scorer in the Polish league, helping Lech Poznan to take the title. Leicester scouts apparently travelled to watch Lewandowski play with the man himself keen on a move to an English club to further his career. This possible transfer was given extra traction when it was revealed that only the volcanic ash cloud prevented Lewandowski from travelling to watch a Blackburn game against Everton and further discussing the transfer. So Leicester's attempt to sign him were not just a pipe dream and had they perhaps secured promotion to the Premier League that season, the Pole might have not been able to resist.

Around about the same time Sam Allardyce likes to tell everyone he nearly signed him for one of the Lancashire hamlets.

The real ones know I signed him first from Lech Poznan circa FM 2009.

That was annoying as we had to make do instead with that little lad called N'Golo (and £3m less!).
