Same people turning up their noses to potential managers will be the same ones who thought we were too big for Eddie Howe years ago. We never learn

If we employ either gary or martin, it means Top isnt learning, he wants this brand of football that wont work.

I don't want Gary O'neil but I did think his wolves were getting quite unlucky in their first lot of games, playing well but making individual mistakes, no thanks though.

That brand of football increases mistakes and the cost of the mistakes, it was a failure.

Like Martin and Dyche, he’d be a safe but uninspiring choice to get us up. The problem is always going to be the next season and trying to stay up. We can’t keep on sacking the manager every other year to our financial detriment.

Ideally need someone we would have confidence in for the long haul that could establish us as a PL team, however the more interesting appointments like Rohl and Manning would be riskier in that they may not get us promoted first time and would need patience to build something for us to push on.

Can we afford to do that in our financial situation?

Difficult one.

Obviously Alonso is available, but has no experience in the Championship or even England so that probably rules him out.

Meanwhile Jack Wilshere is leaving Norwich, he’s had a game or two which probably counts as experience these days so Rudders is no doubt picking up the dog and bone as I type…

In what fantasy land do we have any chance of getting Alonso? He’s going Real Madrid.
Should have been looking at him when Rodgers was fvcking everything up.

This thread is absolutely mental. You see people writing off Cleverley but then for example see a decent amount of people wanting John Mousinho or a relegated Mirion Muslic. Regardless of what you think of the board they have an absolutely impossible task of appeasing the majority of the fanbase with the next appointment, opinions are all over the shop.

It was Rooney that sent Plymouth down. Had Muslic had all season they’d of had a better chance of stopping up. I think it’s good that there seems to be quite a few decent options out there. As long as Ruud goes can’t have him here next season.
I don’t want Dyche or Martin.

All 3 would be exciting, progressive appointments but you have to look beyond final league positions, do a bit of bit of research to appreciate what a good job all 3 have done. And here lies the problem, as I really don’t think our decision makers have that in their locker, the remit is usually out of work and previous premier league experience or a big name/reputation. Look at the managerial appointments since KP took over -

Sousa, Sven, Ranieri, Ruud - all strange appointments at the time, given our circumstances and very much based on reputation, aura rather than recent track record. Only Ranieri can really be deemed to be successful.

Puel, Cooper, Dean Smith - all out of work and fit the criteria of having previous premier league experience, not really exciting or out of the box thinking, in fact quite lazy recruitment as all 3 had been deemed not good enough at similar sized clubs in the premier league.

Pearson - reappointed following intervention by the Birch after he had been pushed out of his job to move to Hull as deemed not high profile enough. Again poor  initial judgement but at least had the sense to swallow pride and bring him back.

Rodgers - was a brilliant appointment and at the time felt like a real statement of intent, first couple of years was fantastic but then the club allowed him too much control and the rest is history

Maresca - a bit of a Hail Mary appointment but one the club deserves a fair amount of credit for at least thinking outside the box a little however I think his connections to Man City and Pep help seal the deal, not sure Enzo would have been considered if he was manager of Watford, Pompey, Plymouth or a Leyton Orient

This is why I think we will end up with yet another stale appointment like a Russell Martin or Sean Dyche based on previous experience I really can’t see a brave progressive appointment such as Rohl, Muslic, Cleverley, Mousinho or Wellens because I don’t think Top and Rudkin are that brave to go for a youngish manager who doesn’t have the experience or doesn’t have a big name reputation.

It’s lazy recruitment and reeks of reactive management rather than proactive where we constantly tracking and monitoring young managers.

Both Russell and Dyche are out of work and have been available without compensation for some time. If the club were really keen on either of them, you’d think they’d have brought them in already. At least that’s what I keep trying to tell myself…:D

I’m absolutely adamant it’s RM! He ticks all the boxes don’t he for our board.

I think the we haven’t seen a change in management, is Ruuds compensation. That is also why it might be an out of work manager.

I know I have joked with you about RM on here. I was sure it would be him, still got a feeling it might be.

I don’t want dyche really, but at least he has kept a team in the premier league. But feels like too far from “the style” top wants.

you would hope the club might read the room. But agree with an earlier post I don’t think there is a universal appointment that fans would get behind.

Is there a ‘Failed abysmally in recent attempt to manage a PL team through stubborn adherence to failing tactics and a chronic inability organise a defence’ box?

Might as well keep Ruud, if so…

Dont waste your time and energy it will still be Ruud

Seeing the reports about vesty being released kinda plants seeds that is the case... if rvn wasn't going to be staying, vesty was one of our top players in championship, so feels like he is planning.

(Obviously wages needs to be reduced and bloody right too!! )

Our imbalance is so obvious,  but that isn't rvn fault.

Our preseason was absolutely rank, signings just laughable, no clear direction at all.

And then left with a hole to dig out of.

I'm not rvn in.... but it is a bit like him being given a taxi with only 3 wheels

But wasn't that exactly what they did two years ago with Maresca, who had very little management experience or wider reputation?

Was tempted by the idea of Tom Cleverly, who did a better job at Watford - a real basket-case club where even Pearson and Ranieri failed - than their league position suggests.

On balance, though, it's probably best to give a swerve to anyone with Manyoo connections..

Read my full post ……I actually give them credit for that appointment, whilst adding I think a big sway was his connections to Man City and Pep particularly when you have an obsession with emulating the Man City style of play.

The board tend to have a safety first policy when appointing managers so go for experience or reputation over being brave and plumping for a young and upcoming manager I honestly believe our shortlist will comprise of the following -

Russell Martin

Sean Dyche

Gary O’Neil

Steven Gerrard

Rafa Benitez

when I would hope it would be more like -

Miron Muslic

Danny Rohl

Liam Manning

Ritchie Wellens

John Mousinho

Tom Cleverley

I think it’s the compensation due to Ruud that is stopping that happening

If that’s really the reason we won’t be appointing anyone before July, if at all.

I do wonder if Ruud will leave on the day of the Premier League AGM as this is the day we officially become a Championship club. Now if this is the case a proactive club and board would already been drawing up shortlists, speaking with prospective replacements and be in a position to announce the new man within days ……..however this is Top, Rudkin and Leicester City we are talking about so no doubt we will be scrambling around the week before pre season still trying to bring in Graham Potter 😂
