Urs Fischer.

Available.

Done at great job at Union Berlin.

Brought low, developed and sold for high fees.

Got them playing with an organised defence, good build up play and fast attack transitions on the break. Suited to the en vogue style of football.

Experience in management, won trophies and players rave about his man management.

Come on JR get it done.

I’m with you, he looks a great shout … Any idea on why he had such a poor run this campaign?

My no.1 choice. There’s no way Top or Rudkin will of heard of him.
So it will be predictable poor Martin or Dyche.

We are in the real of tin foil hats here, but…

could Ruud still being employed by the club be because the club is going to be sold, and the new owners will want their own man in, meaning we wouldn’t sack and replace ruud just yet?

back to the names…

Urs Fischer, and the others on the original “list” that kept getting pasted about would be great.

if we are looking outside of that list, which I think we definitely are, then it has to be someone like cleverley, wellens, mousinho, manning etc.

it absolutely cannot be Dyche or Martin.

my worry is that with so many big time Charlie’s at the club, they will not respond to or respect a manager who isn’t a big name.

I like a lot of what you are saying, however I would class Ruud as a big name and yet he hasn’t really been able to get a tune out of this lot, I think the issue is not reputation but how you sell your vision, Enzo wasn’t a household name but he managed to get everyone to buy into his idea at run start.

With Ruud it strikes me more that he has seen what an utter shit show it has been how shit the standards and culture has become spoke a few home truths and a few have pretty much downed tools, alongside a few injuries to key players like Abdul, Riccy, Mads etc and the very dubious summer recruitment and the whole thing has been an utter disaster, hence the need for a complete overhaul in the summer.

He’s not a name as a manager though and I think that’s the issue. He’s got no authority as a manager and that’s more what I was getting at, I just don’t think I worded it correctly. I think we are on the same page.

I think like a lot of other’s RVN reputation is based purely on him as a player not a manager. Similar to Rooney, Lampard, Gerrard etc. There’s not many who’ve gone onto have the same success as a player and then manager with the exception being Alonso. Yes he did well at PSV for a season but quit expecting imo to have big clubs jumping at the chance to get him.
I still maintain had we appointed a more experienced manager when Cooper left - Fischer, Schmidt, Garcia or Conceicao we’d of given ourselves a much better chance of stopping up. You only have to look what happened at Wolves to see that. I’m not saying we’d of definitely stopped up but there’s no way we lose 17 of 19 games and not score in 9 consecutive matches. We’d of picked up a few wins and draws in that run and would have at least took it to the last 2 or 3 matches.

This guy sounds too good for us. But our board are too shortsighted to see these type of possible appointments

At the end of the day, it’s all going to depend on how obsessed our board still is regarding possession based football.

If they still have that obsession, then of course all roads lead to Brussel.

But as I’ve posted in the past with graphs regarding style of play, the times are changing, and to give yourself the best chance of longer term success, being more fast and direct is the way to go.

Therefore it has to be Rohl, Mousinho or Still for me, Will Still especially is the perfect candidate imo.

  • Young up-and-coming manager
  • Played a more fast, direct style, especially at Reims
  • Intense pressing out of possession, both at Reims and Lens
  • Currently working in a league that relies heavily on youth development, his Reims side were one of the youngest in Ligue 1
  • Has varied formations, but prefers 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 which would suit our squad
  • Championship would be the perfect next step in his managerial career imo

He sounds like he could certainly do a job here. Especially working with young players as well.

What a job Carlos Corberan is doing at Valencia - we've missed the boat on that one

plenty of other decent young hungry managers out there

obviously 🙄 we won't pick one

4th best side in the league or something like that since he joined Valencia

Possibly.

Fischer has been out of work for a few seasons now but I'd be inclined to say he's more gettable than Still being at Lens.

I'd take Still at the city no doubt just think wouldn't pay his compo.

Those who want Dyche, should be calling for Urs Fischer too, that’s all I’ll say on that matter lol

Still has been linked with the Southampton job, but maybe 1-2 Premier League jobs come up in the summer that he gets linked with.

He ain’t getting a premiership job he will have to start in this country in the championship and I think he would jump at the chance to join any of the 3 coming down!

Calling it now - Still will manage in England soon, but I doubt a Premier League side takes a chance on him yet. The most obvious club who might would be someone like Brighton and Brentford, but their managers look pretty secure.

Wellens

Surely you'd go for Challinor over him! 7 promotions in 14 seasons, possibly an 8th on the way. Wellens had a few disasters before Orient, whereas for Challinor the record is as insane as anything I've ever seen - and he's still in his forties. The question is whether he could adapt to a bigger club. But I suppose that a degree of adaptation is also required for foreign managers.

Yep I’d choose him over wellens. But can’t see us doing that not a big enough name. Hasnt failed really.
