An ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers manager has overtaken other contenders for the Leicester managerial race. Who is this candidate and what are his odds of joining the Foxes?

Preseason has begun at Leicester City Football Club. The need for a full-time manager is evident, with LCFC legend and coach and interim gaffer Andy King taking charge for the time being. Now that the majority of the Foxes squad has returned, fitness along with sharpness are not the only things they need. Direction and a team ethos to buy into and adhere to are also required. Only a permanent head coach can supply those principles to define the starting lineup.

At the moment, since former Leicester leader Ruud van Nistelrooy was sacked at the end of last week, the bookmakers have realigned their list of containing potential incoming people. First of all, Sean Dyche is in the lead - just. In fact, Dyche is given a joining probability rating of just 11/10 - which is ever so slight. However, Sheffield Wednesday man Danny Rohl is only at 5/4 in second place according to Independent. Again, that is usually akin to an odds-on score.

Basically, the bookies cannot separate or decide between Dyche and Rohl.
Although the former Everton and Burnley boss has close company from another very well-known gaffer. Once Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is in the third spot for the next Foxes managerial appointment forecasts. The one-time Middlesbrough chief is in front of someone who was recently at Wolves, one of Leicester's Midlands rivals. Who is that supposed candidate?

Gary O'Neil has risen in the stakes to be the new LCFC head coach. Previously with Wolves, O'Neil was known as a fairly innovative and modern coach.

"The Englishman has not worked at a club since that departure in December, and while his first two roles were at Premier League clubs, a chance to manage at Leicester in the division below could appeal to him. He’s offered at 16/1 in the early odds. "

While it went wrong for O'Neil at Molineux, I see something I like in him. Yet his 16/1 ranking leads us to believe that he isn't currently in contention.

Not this shit again.

Forgive me for sharing my outside perspective, but I think Dyche is the best man for the job, much like Sam Allardyce was for West Ham following their relegation years ago.

 

he may not be the man you want, but he is the man you need. Someone who will get you promoted under difficult circumstances, and give you a fighting chance to stay up.

 

West Ham fans didn’t want Allardyce either. And while his brand of football was never popular, he lifted West Ham out of a tricky situation not that different from yours right now, and have since become a steady Premiership club.

 

Don’t be tempted by another risk. Take the safe option. Now is not a time for gambling.

My nervousness on Rohl is that he makes too much sense. This club hasn't made a sensible decision for about 5 years, it makes no sense that they would suddenly be able to get this right. 

 

Someone like Carrick, O'Neill or Dyche still feels so much more likely to me than a genuinely good fit like Rohl.

If they choose Carrick a proven Championship failure they are literally beyond stupidity. If Carrick was any good he would still be at Boro, same applies for the others. Good Managers aren't jobless at this stage.
