No, I'm not lying.  SOME companies are able to verify stuff digitally, IF they have the right software and licences. But not all of them can.

I work for a 2.5bn t/o Financial Services company, as a manager in the recruitment function, and I have to see the physical copies.

But sure, you know more sunshine.

And I work for a ££££££ billion company which doesn’t use any physical copies to recruit employees. It's NIN, passport and for foreigners national ID and the digital access to right to remain in UK via the link Gov is already providing. So whatever you're saying is rubbish and driven by personal hate to your fellow citizens of this country.

Then you must use a 3rd party to verify your ID. Because it's a legal requirement to see original copies or to be able to verify their authenticity.

This should help you out poppet.  Happy Reading.

We verify the authenticity by 3rd parties yes. So what's your point? This company doesn't have a single illegal employee and the checks might take even 2 months. How a digital ID scheme will stop for example barbers recruiting illegal employees? On site inspections can only prevent and tackle this.

Back to my original point, that the vast majority of employers in the country, CURRENTLY have to see physical copies.  The vast majority don't use a DVS to verify ID.

This changes that and streamlines the ability to check people's ID.

I don't really understand why you are quite so opposed to it.

Can't carry on chatting though, apparently I've got some citizens to go and hate and hope I can divide them.

Can't see any reason for anybody to oppose digital ID, beyond conspiracy theorists.

Concerns about the government being able to access data are misplaced, as all of your data is very readily available to them anyway if they really wanted it (they don't).

You give away more data simply by allowing cookies on the websites you visit. A cookie essentially tracks your physically and digitally, and in virtually every case websites share your information with hundreds, or even thousands of organisations, often with no idea what their intentions are.

A properly joined up digital ID linked to public services, benefits and taxation would be fantastic. It would make life a lot easier.

Honestly think it's opposition for opposition's sake with non government politicians.

High ups in Reform UK admitting being bribed by Russia? Who’d have thunk it?

And can't be the only one (not necessarily Reform, but cross party) that Russia has bribed.

Bribing one person, unless they are in a pivotal position, makes no impact and therefore no sense.

Regarding digital ID... What about self-employed people? What's to stop an illegal immigrant working for themselves, cash in hand?

How are you gonna stop employers recruiting illegally? Are you so naive? If someone wants to break the law no digital ID will stop him/her. You'll need direct on site inspections either way. How a digital ID will stop people crossing the channel? They already come in without any documentation. In fact even if they have some sort of ID they destroy it before coming here.

You're still claiming I'm opposed to it. I'm not opposed to physical ID which I always carry with me. I have a passport, a NIN, a DL and a national ID. My stupid phone is a F stupid phone which I use for phone calls whenever I want and I'm available. If you believe everyone is like you, you're in for a big surprise, a big sad surprise.

Is this really the sort of policy to be announcing when the internet is full of conspiracies about Labour veering towards authoritarianism? Just another own goal from Starmer isn’t it… Reform leading in the polls, public opinion of Labour already in the mud, what shall we do? I know, let’s announce a deeply unpopular policy which is disliked by those on the left and the right lol

Can’t believe I was actually optimistic when we finally got rid of the Tories, what a shame.

That system that put microchips into covid jabs so that bill gates knows where each of us are and when?

The same guy that put viruses into his software to pay for anti virus software, not that crazy.

He's a good guy though, looking out for us all.

You can't seriously expect the government to not govern just because of internet conspiracies?

What's your source for this claim?

Too many people believe that because they live a certain way, everyone else does too.

Ask Lisa Nandy,

She seems on the ball with this.

That article states support for physical ID cards. Not digital ID.

But also states this:

'when asked about support for specifically digital ID cards at the end of the survey, after a number of questions about the pros and cons of ID cards, support is more split, with 38% in favour and 32% opposed.'
