Fully intend to spitefully live forever to watch them burn in the fires of their own making.

And to record, for whoever may be left afterwards, exactly who killed the world.

I don’t really get the opposition to it. They already exist in basically every other European country. It’s just the same as a driving licence or passport. I expect the cringely over the top backlash because Starmer is implementing it regardless but they’re really not a big deal either way.

I do believe that there was a similar backlash when the Tories wanted to to do this but as a physical card.

Kinda ironic that digital cards seem to be ok now given the stink that was kicked up about digital season tickets, i want something in my hand, what if i don't have a smart phone etc etc

Compulsory ID cards. Don’t actually have a problem with the concept, but it’s just playing to the anti-immigration sentiment.

Won't make any difference to immigration.

Immigration is being used as a justification for digital ID.

This will be fluffed up around immigration but it will have nothing to do with it, this is about control & having our digital footprints, it will be used in conjunction with all things banking & a means to spy on us subordinate law abiding citizen who are easy meat for clawing back a few pennies here & there because its to hard to go after the real crooks.

Not really the same is it?

I don't have a passport and even if I did, I wouldn't carry it with me all the time. Equally, I drive very little so rarely have that license with me.

I guess I'm unusual because I dont always have my phone with me either. My brother hasn't even got a mobile.

Will we get physical cards instead and need to carry them at all times? If you happen to leave it at home, would you have to 'present' it within a certain timescale at your local nick?

Terrible idea and I'm calling it now, it won't happen.

Nope it's not the same. Which European countries have digital IDs? Can you please name them? This isn't a physical national identity card which the majority of European countries have since the 50s. It's a digital ID with extra sensitive, private information including a lot more details and open to additional ones (possibly dystopian ones).

The citizens of UK were strongly opposed to physical IDs before. There's no way these plans will go forward for a digital ID and even if this gov insists there's going to be massive non compliance which will possibly bring the whole country to a bigger mess.

Anyway, I find it unlikely this plan will go forward. Starmer will be forced to resign eventually.

People entering a country illegally won't enter a country if they can't comply with the rules though.

Eeeerrrrrrmmmm...!

This must rank among the top five of his bizarre rants.

Is he actually mentally unwell?

Pretty sure he's on the spectrum. His mum probably took Tylenol when she was pregnant.

Because I fear it enhances the idiots rather than actually stop anything. You’ll have poor bastards of any demographic other than white British being asked by racist idiots to prove themselves via their ID

In process Starmer has given his critics the stick to beat him with. His party will be split on this when it comes to reading in government.

So these racist idiots can't ask now "papers please" but the digital ID will enable them to do it? You can't be serious. Even if this bizarre assumption of yours takes place you're actually admitting Starmer is introducing an extremist, far far right, fascist tool to cause more divide and hate? If this is true then he doesn't need to just resign he needs to be arrested and jailed?

Surely they can call it the "patriot card" and it will be an instant hit with all the flag hangers.  They are proudly and loudly patriotic right?? They'd be right behind it!! 😂

I’m not getting your take. I’m agreeing that it’s a gross error by Starmer.

It enables the ability of racists idiots to go let’s look at your phone to anyone who they feel they might believe to be an illegal immigrant.

Don’t get the moaning about Digital Id.

The amount of fraud going on these days

is out of control and needs something to combat it.
Makes  me laugh when people worry they are going to be tracked because have i. d. when there’s a billion cameras around and every time you buy something you can be tracked or go on the internet 🤣
if your not doing anything wrong then don’t worry it will only help you.

The amount of fraud is out of control so let's introduce something which will be more prone to fraud! Some of the responses here are just bizarre.

"I assume your mother abused Tylenol all throughout her pregnancy to make you this retarded?"

Someone go on TruthSocial and tweet him that, then sit back and wait for the black helicopters lol

You're not getting my take because you're not thinking out of the box. You have decided to link this plan to potential racist abuse after it's implemented and this is the only disadvantage you see about it.

I can't be arsed to multi quote all the posts about ID cards etc.

I'll just say, George Orwell, 1984.

Is it coming to be? Does the "Utopian/Dystopian State" already exist?

Personally I have nothing to hide but the digitalisation of my very existence and the ability to track and store everything any individual does is worrying.

I'm equally opposed to loyalty cards. lol
