I’m not getting your take. I’m agreeing that it’s a gross error by Starmer.

It enables the ability of racists idiots to go let’s look at your phone to anyone who they feel they might believe to be an illegal immigrant.

Employers are legally obliged to check that potential employees have the right to work in the UK already.

The amount of fraud is out of control so let's introduce something which will be more prone to fraud! Some of the responses here are just bizarre.

Shall we just give up because someone might try hack it.
imagine trying to invent Money the Internet or Passports/ Driving licences with that attitude, everyone would say ohhhh don’t bother someone will definitely do something dodgy with that. 🤷‍♂️

You're not getting my take because you're not thinking out of the box. You have decided to link this plan to potential racist abuse after it's implemented and this is the only disadvantage you see about it.

I’m fully thinking outside of the box. I was answering against the supposed reasoning of its introduction - immigration when which I think actually makes the problem worst.

The idea that people will be made to carry around that amount of information is frankly absurd. What happens when your phone is nicked for example?

Because I fear it enhances the idiots rather than actually stop anything. You’ll have poor bastards of any demographic other than white British being asked by racist idiots to prove themselves via their ID

In process Starmer has given his critics the stick to beat him with. His party will be split on this when it comes to reading in government.

Whilst the suggestion of having an ID card, if free and used sensibly is a great idea, I must admit this is something that came to mind straight away

Yeah and my post made no comment regards that.

My point was if we have the scenarios of protests etc like we do at the moment, what’s going to stop people (racist idiots) demanding that passer bys show them their digital ID or face violence ? Thinking back historically like you know - the last time such identification was enforced it had grave consequences

NHS card, driving license, paye, passport, we are already digitally captured.

The announcement feels a bit like with the Covid-19 vaccination situation, where a lot of people have no choice but have to abide by it.

-

Regarding the migrant boats situation, can't the government recruit army people to cover where they're coming from on the coastline to put more of a foot down against the problem?

That sounds like a wonderful idea right up to the point where the first boat gets sunk because of direct fire or the first desperate person with nothing left to lose keeps coming and gets shot.

Mind you, some people have been calling for taking the "human" out of this humanitarian problem for a while now so it might not matter.

You didn't think this through, did you

What would you like the army to do? Shoot people? Harsh words?

As a deterrent.

Who knows what the people coming in have on them that could potentially affect safety etc.

How a digital ID on a device thousands people lose every day will tackle fraud? I'm for decades now pro tech but I can't ignore the fact there are still thousands of people out there scammed every minute.

The reasoning behind the plan lacks any common sense. You can't fight illegal immigration or illegal employment by a digital ID. The ones that are coming here don't have ID or papers. Lawful businesses check your status before employment already (passport, national ID if you're from a foreign country, DBS, NIN etc). If a business wants to employ illegally a digital ID won't stop them. On site inspections can stop illegal employment. There are certain businesses within 2 sectors that break the employment laws. Everyone knows this.

Obviously everything can be forged but it’s up to the Government to make it work so why don’t we give them a chance and not slag it before it’s even a reality.
it may be a disaster but at least a government is willing to try something new.

Someone go on TruthSocial and tweet him that, then sit back and wait for the black helicopters lol

I know you think it’s a big joke but it’s a sensitive subject for anyone who has dealings with family or friends that are autistic.

Using the word retarded aswell - are we going back 20 years? Thought better of you.

Because their intentions aren't genuine. The majority of people don't trust the government right now and imo rightfully so. As I said their primary reason for introducing this is laughable. You can't stop illegal immigration by forcing citizens which are already lawful to carry a digital ID. I can carry with me the physical DL, passport or even the NIN paper if they want. My employer already checked all these.

I don’t really see the issue with a Digital ID if I’m honest.

Please could we however combine the passport, Driving license, National Insurance, NHS and all of the other loyalty cards in my Apple wallet?

I really don't get that. Yeah, it seems convenient, but if it gets lost, stolen or hacked... that's it, that's your life gone in the blink of an eye. You are no longer you.

Classic putting all your eggs in one basket.

I think the idea is to make it easier for employers to perform a check without having to try and spot fakes. From what I have read, employers download a verification app which when used would create a record that would be shared with the Home Office giving greater transparency over what businesses are compliant.

Sure it will be helpful for employers, but it also has the side effect of speaking to those who would ensure due diligence on immigration. (Which of course it wouldn't)

Of course racists are still going to be racist if digital ID is introduced, this won’t stop that, but if they have no justification to ask someone for their ID then they can be dealt with by existing legislation. They would also need to have downloaded the employer verification app that the Home Office would have oversight of to check someone’s status and so theoretically this could provide proof that someone is asking for ID when they shouldn’t be.

I can understand the indignation at this, but I'm hoping there will also be more indignation directed both at the man who said the things to start all of this off, and those - both over the pond and here - who think he and his UK proxy are somehow a good thing.

What do you think they're doing when they get to the shores?

Just casually start roaming around the streets?

Army will do fvck all. It'll just mean they are actually more safely taken to any processing centre or whatever it's called.

Paranoia; it's all paranoia.

Paranoia from authority that people might not be who they claim to be.

Paranoia from the people that authority will abuse so much collective information.

Whatever happened to humanity?
