My point was that this can hardly be used as an example of being a man of the people given he is just announcing it.

He’s just informing people of something that’ll save people a few quid. Not everything has to be agenda driven.

Again, I am not having a go at him for informing people. My initial response was in relation to it being evidence of him being a man of the people which given he did none of the ground work is, I would suggest a poor example to use.

Might be wrong but I don’t think German supermarkets sell petrol to the extent that UK one’s do.So maybe that might put a hole in the above NYU research?

Do we really need google to let us know that supermarkets are usually a good few pence cheaper?

I haven't used Shell, BP, Texaco or Esso for years unless its an emergency. Then i'll put in £20 and go to a supermarket.

Better than it not doing so and people complaining about that, instead.

Ah, the US joining those bastions of human rights, Iran and Afghanistan, in offering the spectacle of a public execution. In glorious livestreamed UHD, no less. Can practically taste the brain matter.

Be there or be square, I guess.

If they’re doing this kind of thing, why not just empty Guantanamo Bay and operate a real life Running Man event?

"Americans love television. They wean their kids on it. Listen. They love game shows, they love wrestling, they love sports and violence. So what do we do? We give 'em *what they want*! We're number one, Ben, that's all that counts, believe me."

Kinda sounds like a Takeshi’s castle remake, can we have Craig Charles narrating?

But in all seriousness, the threat was overstated by social media (quelle surprise) in the first instance given that the disease itself, while nasty, is thankfully difficult to transmit from one host to another.

'Eugene R Fidell, a visiting lecturer at Yale Law School, told the BBC it was a "really unfortunate decision".

"To livestream an execution is just so out of the Middle Ages. In a way, we are so past that as a society, at least I thought so until today," he said.'

I understand that getting a reliable Internet connection was very hit and miss back then, certainly in rural areas where broadband was unheard of.

It was being suggested in some of those social media circles that the Russians had bioengineered a whizzy next generation form of pneumonic plague that was: a) much more contagious than previous forms of plagues; b) had a long incubation period; c) induced a feeling 'euphoria' that encouraged the infected individual to go out and party like Keith Vaz, infecting everybody they met; and d) was completely resistant to antibiotics, meaning a 100% fatality rate for anybody who caught it.

I'm relieved to see that these reports seem to have been exaggerated.

It was all plausible until the idea that anyone and everyone could ‘ party like vaz’
