When you talk about squad depth you should be looking at what you have to back up the first 11, so in your example:-

Potential XI with departures

Stolarczyk

Justin Nelson Okoli Thomas
Skipp Winks
Fatawu Ayew Mavididi
Daka

Potential Second XI with departures

New Keeper

Coulibaly Vestergaard Coady Pereira
Ndidi Choudhary

McAteer Alves Monga
Ayew/Evans/New Striker

We have bodies to cover each position, but we definitely need more quality and should get rid of players who apparently don't want to be here

Posted

Think we should move on/sell; Hermansen, Faes, Coady, Kristiansen, Soumare and BDCR

Keep the rest, add a striker and most importantly a good manager, and it's straight back up time

Them players not good enough for the Championship then chap?

They probably will hold their own in the championship.... but nowhere near good enough for the Premier league... so is there any positives in keeping hold of them ... we need to build a team to be competitive if we are aiming to go straight back up

That’s fine in theory but are Prem level players going to sign for a Championship club?

Doesnt matter what potentially  decent players we have fir the championship  if we get another inept manager like Ruud it will not matter as they will play the  wrong players in the wrong formation!

The squad we will be left with will be very competitive in the championship.

I personally would fill the gaps with loans  and youth players as we would need to invest heavily to be in with a shot of staying up if we got promoted

Comparing the “potential” in this squad to the last times we’ve gone down, you have to be positive with that at least. There is depth and reasons to have hope.

Don’t get me wrong, when we got relegated 22/23 with a top 6 squad baring keeper, it’s not the same as that but there’s plenty there for a good manager to work with and have a solid base.

It’s the good manager part that worries me

The squad will be more than good enough for play-offs, even with a points deduction. Really looking forward to watching our academy lads come through.

If we do stick with Ruud, I think he'll get on better this season- the situation will be similar to managing PSV in the Eredivisie in terms of comparative club sizes and expectations.

about a thing, 'cause in the Championship we're gonna be alright ;)

So there seems to be an awful lot of negativity on here currently, so here is a thread on squad depth/potential departures and incomings for next Season to hopefully cheer some up :scarf:

Firstly, it's all guess work and I believe this is where the negativity is coming from on here with an "impending points deductions/transfer bans" etc..., it's all rumours and guess work by journalists at this current time. Some sources saying we're going to be hit in the Championship, others saying it will happen when we gain promotion back to the Premier League. It's also been rumoured that we don't need a fire sale so we could keep the likes of Hermansen, Bilal and others.

If you're a betting man, I think there is excellent value in us to win the championship at 14/1. Even to be promoted is worth a go at 9/2.

Likely to leave

Wout Faes, Boubakary Soumare,

Potential to leave

Connor Coady, Ricardo Pereira, Viktor Kristiansen, Woyo Coulibaly,  Wilfred Ndidi & Bilal El Khannouss

Potential Squad

GK - Hermansen & Stolarczyk

RB - Woyo Coulibaly, James Justin & Ricardo Pereira*

CB - Ben Nelson, Caleb Okoli, Harry Souttar, Jannik Vestergaard & Connor Coady*

LB - Viktor Kristiansen*, Luke Thomas & James Justin

CDM/CM - Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp & Wilfred Ndidi

CAM - Bilal El Khannouss*, Jordan Ayew & Will Alves

LM/LW - Stephy Mavididi, Will Alves, Bobby De Cordova - Reid & Jeremy Monga

RM/RW - Abdul Fatawu, Kasey McAteer, Bobby De Cordova Reid & Jorday Ayew,

ST - Patson Daka & Jordan Ayew

So, I posted a similar reply on here a few weeks back in a thread but the above and below are more detailed(off the top of my head may have missed a player or two, if i have apologies).

Potential XI with departures

Stolarczyk

Justin Nelson Okoli Thomas
Skipp Winks
Fatawu Ayew Mavididi
Ayew/Daka/New Striker

Best case XI

Hermansen

Ricardo Nelson Okoli Thomas
Skipp Winks
Fatawu BEK Mavididi
Ayew/Daka/New Striker

This is before any of the youth talents come into the Squad and any new additions. It's clear we need another striker if not two. I personally believe we will do very well in the Championship again, Fatawu, BEK and Mavididi could ruin that League and I don't think there is anything better than them three behind a striker.

Completely agree with your point but not your starting 11s - the premise however is absolutely bang on - the players we have should batter the championship- the standard is absolutely garbage and a million miles from the prem - we currently still have the potential to field 9 of the 11 that played nearly all year when we won it - and the squad is actually miles better than last time even if the 11 potentially isn’t without kdh and Vardy but bek and daka should be more than good enough - there are no excuses for these guys and whoever comes in as gaffer - they have everything they need to succeed at that level - which let me say again is absolutely rubbish

Possible.. but not for us given the state we are in .... that is why we need to build a squad of good ambitious players ... and not buying 30 years + players who are past their best and overpriced cast offs

And that's what the whole thread is about the Championship. You're the one who's deluded if you think we're signing a "prem proven/competitive players" being a Championship🤒🤯

Just my opinion but no most of them are not.

Most of the squad have literally proven that they are by winning The Championship title.

And I think your a little more deluded than I maybe am ... I assume your deluded enough to actually believe that proven premiership players ... Winks, Ayew, Skipp, Eduoard, Coady, Vestaguard have actually done the club any good .... they are a millstone around our necks and we are drowning in their over inflated wages ... its ambition, passion and fight the club needs ... players who put spirit back into the club

Yes,  but you just said that they weren't good enough for The Championship.  That's not true.  Whether or not they are good enough for the Premier League is a different matter.

As bad and as potentially as arrogant it may seem on here if we keep the majority of those above is still good enough for a play-off place as a minimum IF not automatics.

They might not be good enough for the Premier League but they are more than good enough for the Championship.
