Leicester interested in bringing João Rego to England

The English club has already made inquiries to sign a young talent who is not on Bruno Lage's radar.

João Rego is on Leicester's target list, a team that will play in the second tier of English football. According to what has been gathered, there have already been inquiries with the Reds to understand the conditions that could secure the young talent on loan. For now, there's no sign of a deal, although the 20-year-old isn't expected to be in Bruno Lage's plans for the start of the season.

Leicester, coached by Martí Cifuentes, believes João Rego possesses the attributes needed to play as a number 10 or as a second striker. Therefore, the club has already informed the club's officials that it is willing to take the player to England, where he could join the squad that already includes Portuguese player Ricardo Pereira

According to what was possible to ascertain, it would be a loan with an option to buy, but, for now, Benfica SAD has not yet given the green light for the transfer. This, despite João Rego not being included in the squad for the Eagles' first three official matches this season. The youngster has not been playing minutes or a place on the Eagles' bench, but it should be noted that Benfica's management intends to renew the player's contract and include a €100 million release clause. There is also currently no agreement between the parties in this process.

£100 million release clause?? :o

lol It’s a non starter then isn’t it? Clearly they rate him, so why would they let us have an option to buy

From my Benfica Friend, highly rated young prospect. However would only ever be a loan deal which would suit both clubs.

....with an option to buy? Sounds like the deal we had with Sporting for Abdul.

They must rate him very highly to leave him out of the squad for the first 3 matches. Of course they rate him if they know an English club is showing interest

Yes, because the signing of Fatawu under similar circumstances has been a disaster.

Bilal replacement? Whilst we absolutely have room for another creative midfielder, if we are adding to existing players then a more robust central midfielder is surely the priority, likewise striker.

Or maybe Marti knows we need most creativity in the midfield and moving Bilal to an 8?

One can hope…

Eh?

Portugal has been a good hunting ground for us under Glover. This is a low risk signing of a player type we need and ticks the boxes.
