Just dont lose. Early in the season dont need to be giving them a boost of confidence, but we're that unsettled i dont fancy a win.

Id start with Daka purely for his pace. Ayews had 3 games and done nothing. Id be tempted to play Ayew in the ten, purely for his physicality and holding the ball up and winning free kicks in their half (even though we then tend to pass it back to the keeper). All for giving the young players minutes but I think whilst we are unsure of what we have available and are unsettled we should utilise the experience for games like this.

Winks in for Skipp, Riccy for Hamza and Faes in for either one of the back 2. Vesty is a better player but we will need a little pace against these so leaning towards Caleb if still here. And get bloody Evans involved off the bench!

Soumare

Fatawu

I despise how often we pass it backwards, not much better passing it forward either.  That team unless we can get some signings

Absolutely agree! Twice yesterday we had free kicks about 40 yards from their goal and a chance to either lump it into the area or start an attack.. commentator even said 'Leicester win a free kick in the opposition half, a chance to put the ball in the area' and on both occasions, even though Vesty and Okoli went up they just played it backwards, eventually to the keeper.

The commentator then congratulated the press of Charlton for it. Yes, they pressed well all game, but it had nothing to do with those free kicks.. just shows how negative minded we are in possession. I dont believe that to be a Marti thing though, its the culture in the club from the last few managers.

We do lack creativity and ball carriers and need some new ones in for their ability, but I also just generally think we need new players in for their more positive mindset too

Apologies for the photo quality but I had to resize it so I could upload.

This was pre game yesterday for attacking stats. Anyone got the defensive ones or know best place to look for them?

Edit: Seen this on Twitter/X

Very small sample size obviously but some of them don't make for hugely impressive reading given we've played embattled relegation favourites, a team who finished one point above the drop last season and the League One play-off winners. Some highlights:

xG against - 4.7 (joint 6th highest)

Post-shot xG against (basically, how good are the shots we're facing?) - 4.6 (6th highest), Stolarczyk 2nd best shot-stopper in the league so far using this metric

Shots against - 41 (joint 10th highest)

Shots on target against - 13 (7th highest)

Average distance of shots against - 14.6 yards (2nd lowest, obviously low = bad in this case)

Attempted crosses into our area - 55 (5th highest)

Completed crosses into our area - 9 (joint 7th highest)

Opposition dead balls/set pieces leading to shots - 14 (highest)

Tackles + interceptions - 53 (joint 22nd highest, not necessarily a bad thing)

Opposition touches in our area - 73 (joint 6th highest)

Fouls committed - 22 (lowest)

Yes I watched them against Ipswitch and they was nothing special, They are hardly blowing teams away they only beat Oxford 1-0, they scored two late goals against Blackburn who are hardly world beaters.. I think you are giving them to much respect and are drumming into the media hype, in regards to us we are at home and will improve game by game and squad is still made up of good players I am begging to wonder if you even watch football yourself or just look at the headlines ?

Yeah I've watched plenty of football thanks. They murdered Ipswich and were robbed, they dominated Blackburn and won at the death and had about 30 attempts on goal v Oxford. They're a good side playing much better than us currently so therefore it will be a hard game. I'm not sure how you could come to any other conclusion, or you think we will win easily? I'd love nothing more than for us to hit form and beat them but the way the two teams are playing I can't see it.

I'd have Page on the bench over either of Soumare/Skipp.

Ah yes, thank you.

Worrying that even with the above we’d have BDCR, Kristiansen and one of Skipp/Soumare all just sat there collecting a wage.

We’re in an absolute shit state.

You really are determined to create a narrative aren't you. How exactly are Charlton the same as Birmingham in terms of squad, ambition, aspirations, current team etc etc can you please explain how they are the same.

They have spent about 14m this season, most of the players are average imo similar level to Charlton's.

Demarai Gray and Kyogo are not the same standard as Charltons at all I reckon you must be trolling at this point.

Gray is bang average mate Kyogo and Stanfield there two better players but hardly a team we should fear.

Genuinely puzzled by some of our fan base talking about what we need this season for promotion. Comments like Okoli is not Premier League, so he shouldn't be here.

We are miles away from promotion. What's more, I don't want to go anywhere near promotion. They must be post 2016 happy clappers. We need a few seasons building a stronger base, like Sunderland have done, and possibly West Brom. are doing. Can you imagine the carnage if this side went up? We'd be straight back down, faster than a McAteer transfer.

We're also likely to get a points deduction. With this squad, and the potential punishment, the goal this season should be, as good a season as we can, establishing ourselves in the Championship. I'd say Okoli is good enough for the Championship, and that's good enough for now.

Where we are now, just outside the play-offs would be perfect. We need to give the youngsters time, we need to clear out the dead wood. I'd say we need three seasons in the Championship, then let's see where we are. At this stage, the P word is just divisive, and delusional. Time for a reality check for some, who I'm sure would enjoy the campaign a whole lot more if they took one.

Our squad should be getting promoted compared to the others in the league. What are you talking about?

The longer we are down the worse it gets. More money gets haemorrhaged in the Championship in comparison to us being in the Premier League. We need to get promoted and have a good summer window going into a season in the Premier League and build the foundation for success there.

Our squad should be getting promoted? What, the same one that everyone moans about each week; the one where everyone's bricking it about playing newly promoted Birmingham; the one that was abysmal at Preston; the one that didn't deserve to win against Wednesday; the one that was outplayed by Charlton; the one that everyone says is lacking in the key departments of central defence, midfield, and attack, and with no money to correct it, the one that has a number of older players who appeàr to lack interest and fight; and the one that's getting a points deduction?

Mmmm.

All three of the above (even Gray.. 😟) would walk into our current starting line-up.

As would several others in the brummies' squad.

Gray over Fatawu?

I don't think Gray gets in ahead of either of Fatawu or Mavididi

Or probably even Monga

Not fear no, never said that, they're a good side though, very good side who should have 3 wins out of 3 if it wasn't for a 96th min harsh pen v ipswich. Gray is good in this league and they have players you may never have heard of but they will be near the top this season and it will be a tough game for us. They're better than anyone we have faced so far and certainly better than Charlton.

You could say they could have 1 loss as well if it wasn't for 2 goals in the last 5 minutes.

They also only had 16 shots off target against Oxford compared to your 30 and they had one shot on target which resulted in the goal

They will finish 10th at best
