Alves's development is surely 12 to 18 months behind what it would have been had he not been injured. Maybe even two full years when you consider he's not just had to return physically but mentally and reach the level he was at before injury.

He has a high ceiling. A confidence-boosting loan will do him the world of good.

Exactly. Look at Oscar Bobb’s development alongside a big injury. Different levels, but I think that’s the patience we need with Alves.

Fatawu's return to pretty much pre-injury form has certainly boosted my optimism that we could still see the Will Alves we all wanted to.

I think after seeing how much Justin regressed post-injury, I'd forgotten that it is in fact possible for players to bounce back. Time will tell, this Huddersfield loan is a great gig for him.

Says more about us than him. How can we criticize that opinion when it’s one all the fans share.

The club was in a toxic state last season and we all know that we have these inflated egos on crap. Why would we criticize a lad who loves the club, for thinking that what’s been going on isn’t great, if we all think that as well?!

I'm not criticising Alves (if you see my posting history i would love nothing more for him to succeed, and one of my favourite memories was seeing him subbed on against Watford several years back in the FA Cup), Maybe this is more a situation of young adults not being fully mature enough to handle the real world ( i dont mean that in a derogatory fashion).

Are you telling me there are no egos at Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, Man U etc? The football world is full of egos.  I know we hate ourselves right now, but we are not the only club with difficult characters, fans on the edge and managers who behave like sociopaths.  Regardless of your workplace, environments and pressure can be tough. I'm 49 and had 6 jobs in my life. 2 i felt had toxic characters in prominent positions and those could make the working day difficult, but in both cases I still did the best job i thought i could and still look back at my time fondly. Alves hasn't had anything to compare to other than Cardiff (and now Huddersfield of course) and that was a team full of League 1 players faced with relegation. Great for a loan where

If he wants to get to the top, he's going to have to learn to deal with the pressures of the workplace. It's not always pretty, and sometimes it takes characters like Marti to steady the ship. Its a part of bringing developmental talent through that really concerns me. Do 16 -> 20 year olds really know what they are getting involved with?

Alves notably bulked up over the summer too, this could well be the season he matures into the mens game

I don't think this is a particularly recent development with him? He looked like he'd bulked up post-injury but I don't think he really looks any bigger now compared to his time at Cardiff, for instance.

Not that I think "bulking up" is always necessarily beneficial, Waghorn looked a better player before it looked like he was about to go in Hell in a Cell.

Wasn’t you specifically, but can already see that mindset seep in from people. and once people latch on to that stuff.

I just think that he wouldn’t be saying it about top players, he wouldn’t be thinking that about someone like vardy. But we had players like coady, winks, faes and vesty who all did what they want around seagrave and one thing ruud did well was call a spade a spade.

Why would that be a positive work space? If you had to go in and see those dossers acting like that whilst the team gets pummeled every week would you like it?  I’d expect any motivated pro to be wanting away from that. They may have been terrible at Cardiff but if they were all trying their best and you were working for each other you’d naturally have a better time.

I just think he looked notably more like a man rather than a boy this pre season, its possible it happened last season I suppose

Like others have said the main thing for Will is to now start impacting games from the start.

He was always great for Cardiff when coming off the bench but struggled when starting.

Would live him to get 10 goal involvements and understand his own game / favoured position a bit more. He can then decide if he wants to 'do a Dewsbury Hall' and develop further at Leicester, or move on in a different direction. Always had massive amounts of ability on the ball.

I don’t get it as I saw a vid where he pronounced his own name Al-Ves

Footballers are thick as they come. Even money he doesn't know how to pronounce his own name.

Rhymes with valves.

He said that his Grandad and family say Alves (rhymes with valves) but he quite likes Al-ves. He's not bothered either way.

Foot injury

Could be couple months at worst

doesn’t look great

The guy can’t catch a break can he?

Hopefully it’s not a sign of Alves being a “what if?” player.

Alves. As it's written.

The Scottish origin of the name isn't pronounced how it's written at all though. English folk always mispronounce it, even those who have it.

There are two origins of the name, Portuguese and Scottish and neither rhymes with valves.

The origin of the name is irrelevant if his family want the rhymes with valves pronunciation.

there was a Celtic migration from the Iberian peninsula to Scotland so I’m assuming that’s the origins of the connection there..

Then we aren't mispronouncing it at all then because we say it like Will says it. Al-vez.
