Armed police are standard at airports.

5 does seem a bit over the top though.

Perhaps they thought he had Father Jack with him?

I wonder where advocacy of violence against a marginalised group fits into free speech laws in the UK, US or anywhere else, tbh. Especially given that there are those out there demonstrably ready to act upon that advocacy.

Tell the whole story Tommy, because thats not quite what he said or meant, there is context to it.

Either way, im no policeman or law expert.  IF he has broken the law he should ne punished, if not he should teach the law enforcement a big lesson.

For me, even if it did break the law, if he wasn't a famous person, would he have got 5 officers to arrest him.  The pains of being famous.

This thread will last about two minutes because people in general have lost their marbles arguing about the issue that GL always talks about.

(Or perhaps because people don't understand libel /  Contempt of Court stuff  )

As a general observation, he has booted his own life in the baws - he has chucked his marriage, his reputation and his career down the gurgler, because he became 24 hours a day obsessed with that thing that he is obsessed with.

Even people who might agree with some of his views wouldn't be associated with him.    It's nutjob on the bus energy.

Trans people don't get any special protection, unjust violence against anyone should be condemned. But If a trans person is breaking the law, women should legally be able to protect themselves if necessary in their safe space,  just as the Queen said she did yesterday.

Rightly no one should be going out looking for trouble.

The whole story/police reaction seems way over the top. I imagine charges will be dropped shortly.

I agree, I was thinking of the direction the thread might take.

Yes, and I wonder if we'll see if everyone understands that nuance enough to make that distinction consistently when gross generalisations and such incitement designed to appeal to prejudices and lead to violence is ubiquitous in the digital world.

My money would be on not.

They do under the The Equality Act 2010, Section 7:

7 Gender reassignment

(1) A person has the protected characteristic of gender reassignment if the person is proposing to undergo, is undergoing or has undergone a process (or part of a process) for the purpose of reassigning the person's sex by changing physiological or other attributes of sex.

(2) A reference to a transsexual person is a reference to a person who has the protected characteristic of gender reassignment.

(3 )In relation to the protected characteristic of gender reassignment—

        (a) a reference to a person who has a particular protected characteristic is a reference to a transsexual person;

        (b) a reference to persons who share a protected characteristic is a reference to transsexual persons.

I accept that and take your point, but what I was trying to clumsily say was that everyone should be protected.

it’s very possible that, considering these views are advocating violence AND that are often associated with the far right who, well, seem to be quite violent quite often, the police presence was there to nip it in the bud and protect the situation from spilling over into a violent stand off between any right wing supporters who may have been present and the police.

” trans people are divs”. Fair enough. Rude, but a matter of opinion.

” go hurt that person over there” . Not ok.

Maybe but there is so much stuff on social media, alot worse by alot more famous people, plus what he said did not break any laws, there is no law to nip it in the bud, you either break the law and police can intervene, or the police are subject to get there ass kicked for wrongful arrest.

I really hope he has broken the law if he is inciting violence against ANYONE simply for who they are. And it’s at least questionable that he has or the police wouldn’t have turned up ( on orders from higher up ).

Yes armed police are standard at airports, but not in groups of 5.

He was specifically referring to trans-identified men who enter women’s spaces. And given that it is customary among many trans rights activists to threaten rape and murder against anyone who disagrees with them, I’d say his language was fairly tame in comparison.

then take them to court if you really must, call the police if you really want to ( just like someone did to this guy)  but a call to violence NEVER ends well for anyone. We need to get away from this vigilante mentality.

Linehan is a bit weird no doubt, but if telling girls they should feel free to defend themselves against a bloke in the ladies toilets is now inciting violence then WTF.
