He could have been playing every single minute of every single game this season and as soon as someone like Man Utd or Arsenal came in he would've been gone

Maybe a bit of a better chance of keeping hold of them in the Championship (which probably would've just ended up with us getting more money) but realistically there is absolutely no chance in League One

Man Utd are pretty good at getting young players out on loan as well and as long as he rates himself which I imagine he does why wouldn't he make that move

We’d have fetched more dollar for him however.

Would have thought best thing for him is to give us 1 season in L1 where he should be guaranteed games, and then potentially move on. However, not everyday Manchester United come knocking for you, so it's understandable that he won't turn that offer down.

Plot twist…. What if he gets loaned back to us for a season?

I did think that, but if he goes then I'd rather look for us to recruit or promote our own player and develop them as opposed to doing Manchester Uniteds job for them. If he's our player then yes love him to play, if he goes then let him go.

personally for me, if we have someone on loan it has to be  because they are far better than anyone we have at the club. The lad has potential to have a good career and because of his age, it’s hard to put a ceiling on that, and I don’t want to sell him, but he’s not made a position his own and so you’re right, it would be pointless  to have him back on loan

I will just add , however those that don’t want ANYONE on loan and would prefer to ONLY develop our own, run the risk of having a team that won’t get promoted. Just so that in a year or two time when we’ve put some effort into a player for him to  start making noises about not wanting to sign a new contract  and wants to move up the pyramid. And we’d be back to square one  focussing on a player who when he actually is good enough to truly make a difference gets pinched again.

we’ve absolutely got to do whatever it takes to get out of this division.  We can’t put ourselves back a year just on the principle of favoring our own young players.

Why do people always assume this is one sided? What if the agreement was similar to Monga’s where the player signs professional terms on the basis the club would allow talks to top 6 clubs if they were interested? Very reasonable agreement on both sides. Youngster or not if he would rather be somewhere else then let’s get a good deal for the club and move on.

I do wonder whether the club are more reluctant to accept an offer now on the basis of Nelson’s injury.

People saying that monga and possibly page will get less game time than if they stayed are missing the point. They'll probably get half a season getting trained by the best coaches in the world assessing their strengths and weaknesses and then be loaned out to a club that suits them over the long term.

They won't be stuck at Leicester city which will be great for their mental health. They will train with some of the best young talent in the world and see winners all around them instead of what we have.

On top of that they'll probably have more money too.

so you're saying he's gonna stay then ?

We shouldnt develop a Man UTD player. We promote Tommy Neale instead.

Ideally if we sell an academy player (especially one that currently doesn’t start for us like Page) it is definitely the route to promote the next in line. Should be the way forward if we want to take advantage and make money to hopefully use for transfers (when we’ve hopefully recovered)

They hoover up loads of young players and very few make their first team, Page has plenty of potential, but I can't see him anywhere near their first team for a few years. At the moment he is touch and go to get in ours

Page is touch and go to get into our team because we have signed 2 players in Cullen and Chaplin ahead of him.

New signings will always be prioritised over academy players.

Personally I think Page should start for us ahead of Cullen and Chaplin but it is too early to tell either way. If Chaplin and Cullen are putting in the required performances only then can we talk about how Page deservedly does not get into our first team.

This is the problem, he is competing with Braybrooke for the 8 slot and Braybrooke keeps putting in man of the match performances.

I would love to see Skipp dropped, Braybrooke at 6, Page at 8 and Alves at 10, but it won’t happen.

Page and Braybrooke's linkup in pre season was very nice to watch. Ideally they would have been playing together this season.

Hopefully still could :fc:

Martin confirms that Page was left out for selection reasons rather than due to an impending transfer.

New transfers blocking the pathway for academy players has become a bit of a running joke on here but unfortunately it is an inevitable consequence.

It would be more palatable if the player who took his place in the team (Cullen) was actually any good.

Good comment Cullen has been pretty poor so far.

He’s a United fan isn’t he

Yes, apparently so.

I sort of see it for what it is. If we were in the Premier League and they came knocking, we’d struggle to keep him.

The reality check is we are a league 1 club this season and after 2 games, it is quite feasible we will be in this division next season.

If he’s not getting selected for “tactical reasons” here, then he may as well be sold for £8m to what is most likely, keeping us afloat until we are sold.
