When you are doing well and coasting high on confidence you can afford to take risks starting a young CB low on confidence. I don’t blame Marti given the middling start and likely mountain of pressure he is under from above. Hard to take those risks when you need it to work.

We are 6 games into the season, if he stuck by him he would no longer be a risk, he would be seen as the future. If you think vesty and faes are the answer to break the cycle we are in then that’s fine. Think you need to think bigger and so does Marti.

That'd be very poor of the club because by not investing in Nelson, they're putting pressure on themselves with regards to PSR when they don't make the most of his value

If it wasn’t literally a championship winning centre back partnership I’d have less sympathy, but I understand why you’d start of with it given how competitive the league looks and our unknown points deduction

that said, I’d have Nelson on the bench for sure

Marti clearly picks a side and then backs it for a few games…. Players need to play without fear

Mavididi, Awey and Soumare play with absolutely no fear my friend. It's exactly the bloody problem!!

Yeah and if we get promoted we can keep these two again, that'll end well, neither have any real massive sell on value either. I'm also not saying he should be starting, but he should definitely be on the bench, as should Page

Football is tough, particularly for youngsters. You have to take the limited chances you get. We saw the cup game. Truth is Ben hasn't grabbed the shirt yet. Nobody is ruling him out.

Honestly, limited at the top level as they are, after our wingers the biggest strength in our team is Vesty and Faes. They're (half!) a level above this league. (Obviously too slow to play together against top forwards.)

He hasn’t even had a limited chance!

And there’s plenty ruling him out. If people would rather Faes and Vestergaard, fine. But please stop with the plenty of time and he’ll get his chance nonsense. Call for him to move on and get a chance elsewhere. We shouldn’t be ruining young players careers by hoarding them and not using them.

He deserves better. He deserves to play even if that is not at the same or higher level.

Soumaré and Ayew are bad calls and that bench is mostly hideous. How do Reid  and vik get on over Page and Aluko?

As unlikely as VK and BDCR are to come on and change a game, away at WBA, have you seen anything to suggest the kids would? Their time will come.

Page was largely ineffective during his spell in the team.

Cifuentes has been a disaster for our academy.

Let's hope he at least gets us promoted, with him not giving the young players a chance and going for a 'results now' approach it means he will get very little patience.

Agree they should both be on the bench for sure 👍🏼

Is Nelson really the answer though the guy was shocking against Huddersfield

Too early to say. He has talent. If he's good enough he'll force his way in... but he has to make it happen.

Well Page got an assist so

Would you rather 2 players we know won’t change anything off the bench or two youth players who COULD and also help them develop

"Deserve" is where we differ. He has to find a way. I completely think he has talent, and I'd love for him to own the shirt for years... but "deserve" is too strong I reckon.

It IS harder for defenders though. You don't sub a defender to change up a game. Tough gig.

He fluffed a simple ball behind Fatawu, that he did brilliantly to convert. Come on...

Didn't really fluff it, wasn't a great pass but it still made it to Fatawu didn't it

They'll develop. But not here at this moment. Away to tough opposition, coming off the bench is not the time for them, as frustrating as the other 2 may be.

Ayew up top again and Mavididi picked despite his honking form is baffling when we have two obvious replacements in Monga and Carranza.

Still think we will get a draw at least. Way too early to judge Marti but we’ve had enough managers in recent years who seem very stubborn with their team selection.
