Thoughts on this list?

I’ve remarked to two mates who aren’t Leicester fans of my surprise that there’s no mention of Vardy, particularly over Larsson (first name I saw)

Both absolutely ripping me to shreds at the thought that Vardy should be included in the top 100.

Even now I’m surprised a lot of fans from other clubs really seem to underrate him.

Other notable ridiculous errors IMO;

Apparently A Cole is better than Carlos

Shevchenko better than Figo and Drogba

And VVD better than Nesta

Raul > Zlatan

The poll could’ve only been created by modern day 18 year olds

Vardy, Mahrez and even Kante are underrated maybe because of the fairytale narrative around our title win. In particular people really don't appreciate how good Mahrez was.

Kante between 2016-18 was arguably the best midfielder in the world, backed up by him winning two premier leagues and a World Cup where he was the best player in each team.

Not been many better at what he does.

Really was like having an extra player in midfield. Even in the 2018 World Cup, Pogba played the best football of his career almost solely because of the space Kante was creating for him.

Kante in terms of how much he elevated a team was behind only about 3/4 players in the world. He was that good. Just a very unique player.

Completely blows my mind that him and Mahrez were playing in France, in the latters case Ligue 2, until 24 / 22. Insane how good they turned out really.

Maldini being #63 is ridiculous. Arguably the best LB AND CB on the list. He's top 5 on there easily but attackers are always prioritised.

Cole and Roberto Carlos were completely different players though weren't they, Cole was the better defender whilst Carlos was better going forwards. How good Cole was gets downplayed because of the offield stuff.

Not sure if Maldini was a better centre back or better left back (in my time I remember seeing him at left back) but if I count Maldini as a centre back then Ashley Cole is the best left back I've seen. I think Cole remains underrated, even in this Country, and you're right it is probably for the offield stuff.

In terms of defenders Maldini should be top 10 without a doubt. Also Cannavaro (71), Nesta (74), Cafu (68) should all be higher up. Easily top 15.

I'd take Cole over Roberto Carlos every day of the week I reckon

It's since 2000 which I guess is the only reason Maldini is so low.

Amazed that anyone would consider Dani Alves a better footballer than Ronaldo, Rooney, Gerrard, Neymar et al.

You can see them run out of ideas at around the 60-70 mark.

I've not looked at the article so not aware of the parameters they were using but isn't Dani Alves the most decorated footballer ever? Maybe that played a part but who knows!

But the list isn't "who played for the best teams".

Like I said mate, haven't had a chance to check it out but if that's the case then fair enough. He weren't a pub player that's for sure!

Click on the link and look.

It suggests he is the 12th best player of this century. It's insane.

It's easy for players that played much longer ago to be lionised. We didn't see much of them play besides the biggest games and highlights played over and over again. Lots of sub elite players these days are probably as good as some feted names from previous but we're just used to say, De Bruyne.

What a completely ****ing stupid list.

It's always been a completely ridiculous concept. There's an enormous amount of variation between players even just in one position let alone all of the pitch.

How do you go about comparing the impacts of, say, Makelele, Viera and Zidane who all played in the same centre midfield together? They all had different roles and qualities to each other.

None of them could have done what Bartez, Thuram or Henry could have done and that's just not looking any further than one team in one moment of history.

How can you rank Lahm, Ronaldinho and Buffon above or below each other in the same list and say any of them are better or worse than each other? Dumb af.

Dani Alves is the 12th best football player of all time and that is a hill I will die on

He'd definitely make a list of the 12 most technically skilled footballers to both win a Champions League and also be a rapist.
