Exactly this. They’ll have the patience to try and wait out and play through a tricky spell which is just not in our DNA.

Really excellent bowling so far, but only one wicket to show for it. Can see Smith settling into it as the ball gets a bit older.

Can work both ways though, and they get out to a good ball and they haven't moved the scoreboard on. That's what England will be hoping anyway.

Bit of luck involved too with the amount of missed edges but bowlers need to be wary that despite it looking good, you have to be full enough to get the edge.

Not sure about anyone else but I was shocked to see Crawley out for zero

I bet your jaw hit the floor when you saw the manner of his dismissal too!

In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes…

…and waking up to another England collapse down under

Good to see the usual reactionary rubbish after a tough session or two then.

All the bowlers look up for it, need them five down by the end of the day to make it roughly even I think.

Edit: Aussies getting a surfeit of luck here, too.

Was it reactionary? That batting was crap, and I don't fancy relying on our bowling attack staying fit for 5 tests and bailing them out

Heads probably the biggest wicket when we haven't got a huge total, he could easily take this game away from us within a couple of sessions if he gets in

Yeah agreed. Getting him out early would be massive

Crucial we stop these building partnerships. 3 big wickets but need to keep it up, still got some strong batting.

Aussie cricket authorities were concerned that the matches wouldn’t last 5 days and the consequent loss of revenue . Maybe work at producing wickets with a more even balance between bat and ball than we’re seeing here then .

It was judging the teams, pitch and conditions before one side had batted on it, much less two.

So yes, it was, and is.

This team's results (with the exception of India away) really have done enough in the face of difficult conditions to deserve more faith from folks.

Ooop, there goes another. :D
