On a serious note. Part of me feels sorry for him then part of me is annoyed at him. He will end up going at some point I think (and rightly so) and probs be made the scapegoat by our fantastic board. He is not the biggest problem at this football club though.

This thread is obviously supposed to be bit of fun, but it made me wonder, can anyone make a case for Marti?  Is there anything positive we could credit him for?  I can't think of anything off the top of my head.

Look, I know some of you think he's doing a crap job. But Marti is taking us to another level.

Give him time and he will achieve it.

Let’s face it ! There must have come a moment recently where Marti has had a moment to himself and it’s dawned on him quickly what the 2 managers before him have been up against !

I feel for him as like Cooper and RVN they didn’t realise that the 2 idiots they had to work with are stubborn incompetent arrogant & bone idle. Like dragging a tonne log up a mountain on your own.

Treatment of RVN was very public his face a picture when asked if he’d been spoken to of his future his response was no surprise “Well it’s good to have a conversation”  and that speaks volumes of what we have in an owner !!!!

No respect for our football club

No respect for an outgoing manager

No respect for Susan Whelen

No respect for our fans

Pathetic  !!!

He comes across as a nice guy and said all the right things at the start of the season which gave me hope then we went back to a watered down version of Enzo with less effort and not playing youth as promised.
I still have a tiny bit of hope he may turn it around and be the new messiah but I am a masochist to my self.

The Case for his defence -

He's been handed a dud hand at a difficult period for our club.  It's clear we are financially screwed at the minute and have no "muscle" in the transfer market.

We also clearly have a DOF who hasn't cleared enough of the deadwood, making our ability to bring in replacements particularly difficult.

The transfers we have made, have seemed positive.  James, Ramsey, both seems decent additions.

Carranza is a bargain basement loan which hasn't / won't work out.

Outside of that, he doesn't have much at his disposal does he.  An impotent strike force.  An unbalanced squad.

Defensive full backs who aren't going to be an attacking threat.

Centre backs who none of us rate outside of Nelson.

A midfield with a single attacking threat.  None of winks, skipp, soumare or Hamza provide a goal threat.

Admittedly, Fatawu and Mavididi do provide attacking intent, but where else in our squad does it come from?

IF he had transfer windows and an opportunity to bring his type of players in, who knows what a difference that could make.

You can add:

Physically past it players (Ayew, BDCR, Ricardo), who can barely play 1 1/2 games a week, never mind 3, meaning he has to keep shuffling.

His system and style are not working. Yet it's the same week in week out. I agree - poor squad, poor characters for the most part; but he took this on. The form is not good enough. He looks beaten - we need some passion and energy, I can't see any of that.

The main case i have for Marti is that he has gotten to experience first hand how poor much of this squad is and will be well aware of where we need to improve.

Yes it's taken him way too long to give Nelson his first league start but now he's made it into the team hopefully he becomes a regular.

Im worried that if we bring in a new manager that we're back at square one where he's trying to get a tune out of the senior pros again before turning to the academy players and we've wasted another 3 months of not integrating the young talents into the matchday squad.

I think so. He's at least tried to change (most) things that haven't been working. He's dropped Soumare, Skipp, Daka, Faes, Choudhury etc, at various points and in the game the other night, he changed shape from a system that just wasn't it.

None of it has worked and that's why I still think he should probably go but I will give him credit for changing things up, it's more than what can be said for our last handful of managers.

If I were to make an argument for him then it would be to allow him recruit a new striker in January.

Not having one that's effective disrupts the whole team and leads to our recent slump.

Also you could argue someone should be given a little bit more time as we look likely to repeat the same process over and over again.

I was optimistic and said wait a while but he has been a disappointment so far even considering our utterly useless board.

The fact we are getting player's like carranza has me feeling that no other manager could do better with this squad.

Can only polish a turd so much before realizing it's still a turd.

We need to accept that it's going to be a painful time stuck in the championship. We need to clear out the stupid contracts and go back to being a mediocre club like 99% of epl and efl squads.
