I’ve written off this season, unless it goes really badly and we have the excitement of a ‘too good to go down’ relegation battle.

At the end of the season assuming all of the out of contract players go. Abdul is sold (too good for us) and someone picks us Faes on the cheap (you have to dream) then we should be left with the below.

Forgetting ability, the below isn’t a toxic squad.  There may be players I’d rather not see but it’s a basis for a hard working squad.

with the wages saved, Abdul sold and the money from Bilal we may also actually add to the squad.

It's not just about toxic attitudes. There are players in that squad that have a ridiculously limited ceiling with no chance of improving.

Vestergaard, Kristiansen, Skipp, Coulibaly and De Cordova-Reid have to go.

I agree but I can’t see anyone buying any of those names - our wages will be too high.  I’m stating what I think we’ll have to work with next year.

Marcal is in the  last year of his contract. Presumably James’s option to buy on his loan this season is linked to promotion. Otherwise it would’ve been an obligation. So James won’t be here!

I’m hoping James enjoys the sights and sounds of Leicestershire so much he wants to stay even if we don’t go up.  Less concerned about Marcal

Get rid:

Faes

Kristiansen

Thomas

Vestergaard

Choudhury

De Cordova-Reid

Golding

Skipp

Soumare

Winks

Ayew

Daka

Mavididi

As a minimum.

Will probably lose as well: Ramsey, James, Fatawu, Monga

Tough summer but one somebody ambitious would relish.

I suspect Monga and Nelson will leave.

Monga, it always felt like he would give us one year and get snapped up.

Nelson, I think the damage has been done and it’s too little too late.

I reckon promotion back to the PL would have been the only way of holding on to them anyway.

Also, I will believe that Daka, Soumare, Ayew and Winks all go when I see it. This is the club that gave Vestergaard 3 more years as his contract was finally over and 3 extra years to Luke Thomas with a pay rise to boot.

Winks I reckon has enough about him to want to go elsewhere. Ayew with our lack of forwards and being in last pay day territory will likely be offered and accept a new contract. Daka and Soumare is hard to call. Hopefully they want out as much as we want them out.

Personally don’t see Nelson and Monga moving on quite yet if they are playing regularly.

they could both go to somewhere like Chelsea but they would be back out on loan almost immediately.

that said a good offer for either and I think they are gone.

Fatawu will be the big sale but not as big as we all hope. He will get a decent move though.

There are two tasks for next season, 1, try and keep and bloody play the youth coming through. Nelson’s performance against Boro and Monga this season shows it’s not all hype. This is the base of any decent team.

the second one, is split in two - first strand: a manager! The one we have presently isn’t one. The second, the recruitment team needs an overhaul. Glover I can’t stand. This is someone who brought us Fatawu, yes. He is also responsible for Faes, Khristiansen, Tete, Skipp, Mavididi etc. the players who are either just shit or mentally weak - that is also a poor mark on him. Given Glover was also at Southampton who have a similar mentality issue, he quite clearly had an issue.

They will both be in heavy demand.

It doesn’t have to be a big boy either. Take Nelson, if he stays in the side and does well, there’s other PL sides who could offer first team football. I’d actually think he is a bit of a mug if he does stay to be honest as he can do better than scrapping around the foot of the Championship (best case).

Monga is much younger but again, there would be PL sides who could give him minutes or even a move and a loan is better career progression. It feels like staying here is a year thing and possible longer if we had got promoted. Stay in the Championship or relegation to L1 and better options are available.

I don’t necessarily think we’d lose the others (Page, Evans etc) but I feel these two are gone regardless.

We'd get about £20/25m for Fatawu if he carries on as he is this season.

Minus his amortised fee that's maybe what £10/15m profit. Would sustain our losses for a few months at least.

This was my failed attempt to be positive…

I was thinking of creating a similar thread myself, so I don't think it was a bad idea. I would say it's only natural to try and have some balance, and to look for any small shoots of positivity. The club make it increasingly difficult to do so of course.

This talk of Abdul being too good for us? Is he though? The odd worldly aside, I think he’s been poor this season. I don’t remember him being so ‘kick and run’, but perhaps Enzo set him up so he had more space to run at defenders. In the current system he seems to be closely man marked, and I think we need to find a way of stopping that or negating it. So maybe I’m disagreeing with my own point slightly, but I don’t think he’s been anywhere near effective as he was last time around with Enzo. And neither has Mavididi, so perhaps it is more the set up and players around him.

I had optimism of this last season which quickly evaporated. I thought Nelson, Alves, Monga would be key players, with Braybrooke, Page, Evans making the bench.

I refuse to let myself do that again. We always find a way to ruin it.
