Yes I was, and as an anorak myself, I tip my hat to you for remembering that! 👏

Just checked on Google and the attendance against Shrewsbury in 1983 was 8440 (8469 in 1987).

The seasons with the lowest attendances were 85-86 and 86-87, both in the old Div 1. Crowds of  little over 7000 against West Brom, QPR etc. (so, fewer than 7000 home fans). The crowds for our away games at Villa and Chelsea were around 12,500

No.

Leicester City v Shrewsbury Town,  Tuesday 22nd Feb 1983,  Division 2,  was definitely 6155.     Trust me.

My first ever game was the Wolves game just below your blue circle. Free tickets through the school and I was addicted.

Anyone done a FOI request?

Yeah a mate did, it got ignored.

I'm not sure where he sent it will actually have been obliged to tell him.

I think it needs to go to the city council. That's where West Ham get theirs from, and they are obliged to give the actual number I believe.

Aye, I sent it to the bloke at the SGSA and he hasn't even acknowledged it, despite chasers.

Surprised anyone is turning up at this point. I purchased boxing day tickets a couple of weeks ago and I'm not sure if I'll bother.

Trouble is they have had your money. They won’t care.

It's basically lies, fudging the figures so the attendances look better than they actually are. I could easily take about 3k off the published numbers based on what I have seen.

I've not been able to attend quite a few this season (yay), and the ticket went unsold, but I'll bet my season ticket that my attendance was still counted. Ridiculous. Boxing Day should be an interesting turnout, another thinking below 20k?

No chance, even if some of the counted season ticket holders dont turn up I reckon 25-30,000 actually attending....unless the weather is atrocious.

That was the coldest game I ever went to.

Won 3-2 (from memory) and was at the start of a fantastic run at the end of the season

Was that Mark Holland? He is an inspector responsible for Leicester City but unlikely to have the data. The council are the ones the data has to be reported to and the recipients of any FOI.

If they have sold or at least allocated the seats then they are not lying.Every club does this for a variety of reasons.Read somewhere that the caterers need too know etc.

You can see how many tickets have been sold/allocated by looking at the stadium map when booking.
I would be concerned by the near 20% no show every week if I was running the show

If they are publishing an "attendance" figure but counting hypothetical tickets sold, not actually people attending, then of course they're lying.

My understanding is that they have the data and are listed as an organisation who are obliged to respond to FOI requests.

Confused that they've not even bothered to respond

They have 20 working days to respond, they can refuse on commercial grounds but they must respond. I assume the request was in writing, clearly shows the name and address of the requestor.. was it addressed to their data controller?

They will always give the tickets sold figure as the attendance for financial and accounting reasons. There's VAT in the ticket price which has to be paid over to HMRC, they have to be very transparent about the number of tickets sold. I know when the Tigers announce their figure they say "The number of tickets sold for today's game is......"

As for Boxing Day i'm on the fence.

After leaving the Sheffield United game at HT there was no way I was coming, then after Derby and Ipswich I thought they were getting it, now after the horror show at QPR i'm not so sure again. Going to see what my mood is on the day.

I think that was because it was a unique occasion.

Because of the snow and gridlocked roads, the attendance was so incredibly low, that they simply couldn't publish 25,000.   That would've been laughed out of court!

26,000 during lockdown would have raised a few eyebrows too.
