I don't mean to be rude at all but why is a Notts County fan always on our forum? Have you been banned from your own, or is it really boring?

Does it matter? It's not like he's talking off topic.

I've only been here for 10 years! lol

I guess with being in the same league I am posting more outside of the 'General Discussion' section, although I have often posted in your match day threads.

Since this is a League One thread, I figured posting about our signings is relevant.

And yes, the Notts County forum I post on is pretty boring. Most of them think I'm young, and I'm 56! lol

I am not the only supporter of another club here at this forum.

Like ive said before keep posting mate. I enjoy hearing about other clubs. That goes for our resident wolves and watford fans

I've just looked at last season and hardly any are played on a Sunday actually.

This doesn’t make sense. They wouldn’t be three games on the last day of the season because they are have to be at the same time.

I suspect the only time Sunday games occur is for venue clashes like sometimes Cardiff can’t play same time as Six Nations games

And there were no matches on the 28th because it was a full fixture list on the 29th (Monday).

There is one scheduled this season in early November (Sheffield Wednesday v Blackpool) due to a clash with Sheffield United.

Personally I’m just pleased for you that you won’t have to talk to yourself on the League 1 thread on match days over on the General and other sports forum this season.

Big leagues now my friend, main forum, busy thread. This is what it’s about

Edited. But i doubt he starts over Choudhury and Skipp in current squad. Particularly given inexperience elsewhere.

And so our decline will continue.

Any other team in this league would look at a young player who stood out in L2 and see it as an obvious signing and yet he is ours and you advocate benching him?

Might as well flog the youngsters to cover a few weeks of the ‘experienced’ players wages if we aren’t going to use them. That said, Braybrooke only has a year left so will be off to a club higher up the chain by next summer at the latest anyway so you might have a point!

My thinking is with inexperience on the wing, at full back and up front. Martin might well be tempted to go for older heads at centre back and centre mid. If we have a spine of Nelson, Braybrooke, Otchere then we will be very very fragile. As unpalatable as that may be.

I think Braybrooke starts. Page is likely to be used from the bench to start with. I'd not be surprised if Bobby Reid is the false 9 which is a hideous thought.

McCarthy

Joseph (I prefer Aluko on pre-season showing)

Okoli

Nelson

Thomas

Hamza/Skipp

Braybrooke

Alves

Chaplin

Mavididi

Reid

Nelson’s going anyway so irrelevant. But he is still plenty experienced to play in L1 if he was staying.

You don’t need a full midfield of experience. You sound like Steve Cooper!

If your defence was

Aluko - new experienced CB - Nelson - Thomas

That would be a fine balance.

Similarly, if you have a midfield of

Skipp - Braybrooke

    Chaplin

I don’t get why you think having one player aged like 22, with a guy who is 25 in Skipp and 29 in Chaplin is too inexperienced.

Having a team of players in their late 20’s and 30’s is how we got into this mess!

I don't think that's his preference, he's merely stating what is likely to happen based on previous coward managers.

Chaplin has played as a 9 a lot more often in his career than Reid. If Russell doesn’t trust Otchere, I think he’ll stick Chaplin up there, which would make room for Page.

Fair enough if that’s the case. Whether preference or not though, still sounds Cooper esk!

The way I see it is, a spine isn’t

CB

CM

St

It’s

CB - CB

CM - CM

AM - set up pending

St

So it’s about pairings. I get the experience balance. I said myself recently I wouldn’t be sure about Braybrooke and Page as a 2 in the middle for example. This is why I was wondering how Braybrooke, Page and Alves fit. But Braybrooke alongside an experienced partner is absolutely fine. I’d be more concerned about Skipp or Choudhury than Braybrooke!

Same at centre back. As I say, I think the Nelson thing is a moot point anyway as if he is here by the opening game, he certainly won’t be by the end of the window. But this was my point when people are saying we should get £10 mill for him (with a year left) yet others won’t even put him in the starting 11 because apparently he isn’t experienced enough! If he was on a long contact and looked committed to staying, he’d be first choice centre back but ideally you’d want the partnership to be him and someone who is probably late 20’s/30 who has been around the level a few years.

Looking at our squad we only have 10 players currently who arent academy products. 8 outfield players.

McCarthy, Vieites, Coulibaly, Faes, Okoli, Souttar, Skipp, Chaplin, D-Reid, Mavididi

At LEAST 4 of those are actively for sale to protect the clubs finances. So we will probably end the transfer window with only 4 fully contractrd players who arent from the academy. Any others youd imagine will be loans.

Im note sure everyone understands how threadbare we are and how many hammerings we are going to take due to inexperience and lack of squad quality and cohesion.

If you add to that we have the most 1 dimensional manager in history, who.is so PTSDd from the Rangers job id be surprised if he lasts 12 games....

Inexperience? Yes, without a doubt. Lack of quality? Possibly, but let’s see how we measure up when the season starts. But a lack of cohesion? Surely the fact that so many of our players have progressed through the ranks together should mean cohesion shouldn’t be a problem. And if you add to that the fact that Martin has a very clear idea of how he wants the team to play, and knows how to coach it. I don’t think cohesion will be an issue.
