Wait is BDCR still a leicester player?

I know most of us gave up a while ago but can we please so stop with the criticism of the younger players for lack of minutes on the pitch in regard to them starting. Yet again, there is another chance for some less experienced players to get minutes at the end of matches and be managed into the starting line up, and also do what we previously didn’t and let them go in the January window if it’s not working for them.

its going to be a complete punt in regards to the first few games starting line up, unless all the players that are going to be brought in have been brought in.

get behind the lads but if it’s not working then get them out the door, to the benefit of both parties. Let’s have a healthy turn over of players and stop the stagnations

I agree Braybrooke will get his fair share of goal contributions, he’d actually be the first name on my team sheet, but I don’t think he's direct competition for Chaplin's spot.

As I've said, only four players have really impressed me in pre-season: Braybrooke, Alves, Aluko, and Joseph.

The rest have just been OK.

I also think its easy to forget that Chaplin started pre-season 16 days behind everyone else

We should probably think of the first few games of the season as being the pre season lol

Team for Notts County:

Stolarzcyk

Aluko Souttar Okoli Thomas

Choudhury Skipp

Alves Chaplin Mavididi

Otchere

Subs: McCarthy, Nelson, Page, Evans, Braybrooke Hutchinson, Joseph, Carr, Gray

An eye opening loss likely

You do realise there is only 7 subs allowed in league one in comparison to the 9 subs in the prem and championship? A lot of lads will miss the matchday squad this year.

I think it’ll be:

GK - McCarthy

RB - Aluko

CB - Nelson

CB - Okoli

LB - Thomas

CDM - Skipp

CAM - Chaplin

CAM - Braybrooke

RW - Alves

ST - Otchere

LW - Mavididi

Subs:

Stolarczyk

Faes

Coulibaly

Hamza

Page

Carr

De-Cordova Reid

Only reason Joseph misses out is because Coulibaly gives you an option as a winger as well as a fullback.

The fact we are being linked with a LB on loan makes me think one of the fullback leave and I would have money on Coulibaly going back Italy.

Yeah you’d assume that would be the case unless for whatever reason they’ve decided to let JJ or Aluko leave on loan which would be absolutely daft in my opinion.

Has Coulibaly actually played as a winger but JJ has.

Reckon Page may start the season too ahead of Chaplin but hope when the team settles down, the lineup looks very similar to what you have (ideally a few gone and replaced of course)

Agrees. Braybrooke has to start and ideally Page but it might be he's still got to ram that home and then Braybrooke goes to the 6 role. I expect and demand from the 10 at least 15 goals next season (plus assists) which Chaplin must deliver. He obviously did nearly double that the last time he was in League One.

My main concern is Braybrooke's contract situation. I fully expect him to excel, but I believe his deal only runs until 2027 unless the club holds a one-year extension option.

Aluko is in the same boat with his contract ending in 2027, too.

Having seen Chaplin over the last few games up close I'd say he's definitely struggled to adapt to the way we play. For example,  against Málaga BDCR was getting a bit frustrated with him with the offensive press and was having to orchestrate it quite directly with him at times.

It was interesting as a lot of managers have said how intelligent BDCR is and he did look like he knew Martin's system well, but that made me think is BDCR one of those footballers that play the system well, but don't have that a bit of freedom , flair or 'know how' to basically catch the eye? He seems like a bit of a teachers pet!

I don't think you hit the numbers Chaplin did last time in L1 playing in a rigid system, so I'm wondering if Brussell will

A: turn him into one of his rigid robots

B: See him as the one to have a bit more freedom/ creative license at the expense of the offensive press.

I'd be interested to know why his numbers diminished at Portsmouth so much compared to that outrageous L1 campaign he had.

Yeah played as a winger in one of the pre-season games, RM also moved him into that role during the Malaga game for around 10 minutes too.

I really hope Luke Thomas is leaving but you would have to be an absolute moron to give him a contract

With what we’ve seen in pre season, the biggest selection headache that Russell Martin will have is clearly in midfield. With what we’ve seen from Braybrooke and Page, I personally don’t see how you can leave them out of the starting 11 for Notts County. Atm, I quite like the balance of a Skipp, Braybrooke, Page trio, but no doubt Chaplin will start with Page or Braybrooke on the bench, but…

McCarthy

Aluko - New CB - New CB - McFarlane

Skipp

Braybrooke - Page

New RW/Alves - New ST - Mavididi

Is what I’d like to see come the Notts County game.

So you wouldn't start Chaplin who scored 26 goals last time in league 1?

Four years ago. For a fantastic team that created a boat load.

His career average goals per season is like six or seven. He got two last year.

For the record, I think he'll start and we're so short of goal threats he'll probably be amongst our best but I do think people need to temper their expectations and I can sympathise with people not wanting him to take minutes from Page.

Important to remember Page is only 18 though. It won't stunt his career if he mostly plays backup to Chaplin this year.

With how Braybrooke and Page have looked together, at the moment I wouldn’t.

Unless you play Braybrooke as the 6, but Martin hasn’t played him there yet.

I think people need to remember this about both him and Evans they have time on their side to develop.

Yep. It's very much shit or get off the pot time for Alves or Braybrooke, with all due respect and sympathy for their injuries.

But a lot of the rest are very, very young and the average Leicester fan only even really knows their names because of how abysmal our squad building has been over the last five years.
