Ings' signing will be a a huge risk given his injury record and no recent goalscoring record to suggest he can replicate his previous record from many years ago. I'm not sure either about his ability to justify his wages in League 1. Since 2023 season he has scored just 6 goals - yes 2 goals a season!

A free transfer maybe but given his wages (ok we don't know but reported he got £30k at Sheffield United so  I am guessing £20k a week?) this is not a cheap commitment given risk. If it comes off and he scores 15+ goals, I will agree it was an inspired signing.

If we are going to take a risk on a goal scorer I would have preferred to pay a fee for one of NL top scorers last season. Of the three top scorers Matt Rush (Boreham Wood) remains in the NL as he is on their retained list . Ollie Pearce at York (now L2) has a contract until 2028 so may be too much for a transfer?

I would far prefer to gamble on a proven goal scorer from a lower division than one with  a poor injury record and no recent goals which is what we get with Ings.

Very similar signing.

Really not though is it? TC got over 10 goals the season before he left for Malaysia, and was only in the wilderness for a year before we brought him back. Last time Ings got over 10 in a season was 5 years ago and hes been declining year on year until now. The only similarity is that they were both perceived to be too old and finished which wasn't true of Cottee

I may be wrong but didn’t Daka come to us with a good goalscoring record?

Everything is a gamble.

How many so-called strikers can we say that about?

If we couldn't afford Kone last year, struggle to see us ponying up for Tolaj

Ings feels a good fit for our current situation, provided 1 year deal only. He'll bag if he's fit

Are we expecting this this week?

Actually thought he’d be announced once the Monga transfer was done. Hopefully vk and winks are announced as gone and vestergaard contract is ripped up in next day or so and then the signings can come in.

I'd sooner we sign a young hungry up an coming Striker than Ings.  Who knows, maybe we get lucky again with another Vardy type success.

We need more than one.

Very true, But we have to start somewhere, Ings doesn't fill me with any confidence whatsoever.

It just strikes me as a weak signing, hoping that he can reclaim his scoring ability without offering anything to the team. He's no Howard, Vardy or Phillips.

Phillips scored 2 for Leicester.

Will be Ayew mark 2, legs have gone.

After a season of daka, Ayew and carranza there’s literally no way ings could be any worse…. No matter how bad his legs have gone.

he will stand in the right spot and will kick it in the goal sometimes.  Daka ran but couldn’t score. Ayew could score but spent the game trying to cuddle the floor and couldnt be bothered to actual be a striker. He copied what he does in every other season of his career and aimed for 5 goals. Carranza wasn’t a professional footballer.

I don’t think ings is a good signing…. But I know he’s better than the toss we’ve had no matter if he can run or not.
