You get good young players playing minutes in the PL they are more likely to hang around for a couple of years - the same way Chilwell did when he had better offers. There is literally not one argument for them to stay here right now. Lose your PL status and other parts of the club will fall apart.

From what I seen in recent times it was Liverpool, Man City. 1 to Spur and 1 Newcastle who seem to attitude issues.

Got to caveat that by what we may have contributed to this though, the major decline as a club and ignoring the academy players in favour of senior players who have let this club down repeatedly. We now have to be brave and play a nucleus of them to give them a reason to stay here vs going back to an established Prem sides academy. 2
RowlattsFox Posted 11 August Posted 11 August If Man City come calling I don't think 15 year olds care if a couple of older teenagers have played for the first team at Leicester. They are going regardless. The pull for both the kid and probably more so their family is massive. Kids go to Man City and think they've made it because they play for their under 21s. 1
Lesta Legend Posted 11 August Posted 11 August 23 minutes ago, AKCJ said: Yes but also it's the perfect place to learn how to be a professional footballer. If you've got a very talented young teenage son you're going to want him playing at Seagrave over whatever facilities the likes of Coventry, Forest or Derby have to offer. I don’t disagree. Our issue is now I would say the level of analyst and scouts we have is probably inferior to the those that workee for the club during our successful years in the premier league. The reliance on agents has been eye opening for standard transfers, the scouting department must feel slightly ignored and demoralised. Seagrave does become slighly irrelevant if players are simply re-registering, jumping ship when money comes wafting from the biggest clubs. The best talent leaving and Seagrave can't perform miracles with those that stay. We got a good crop coming through but I think the short sighted nature and lack of holistic approach to the structure at the club has meant with squandered this generation of talent and now we're going to find it increasingly more difficult to find, attract and keep any youth players that show any signs of talent. Maybe Maccaron is slowing changing things in our approach but it's a blood bath for us at or present. And I can assure you that they'll be a few lads that'll end up at those local rivals as the families will see premier League pound signs.

Completely agree. Braybrooke, Alves and one of Aluko/Joseph have to start on Saturday. 3

Last season and a bit we have seen 3 players 17 or below get debut and minutes Monga 17, Page 17 and Evans 17 , they could have got more of course but shows a path way. We do have to be brave, last season was the time, this season is harder as we just have to get promoted. But we are likely to have 5 recent youth products in Alves, Braybrooke, Joseph, Aluko and Page (if he stays) playing a mayor part, we also seem to be improving get kids out on loan. I think we have improved on that front. 1

That's been a major concern for me. Add to that Chaplin in for Braybrooke. I was worried we would see Hamza at RB to! I'd drop Mavididi and play Alves on the LW and Burns on the RW with Watson as first change, I think people forget RW is Alves weaker position. Edited 11 August by coolhandfox 1

It's not a place that magically produces great players, we'd likely have had players like Monga and Page with or without Seagrave because they're local-ish lads. Seagrave is about expanding that talent pool to hoover up as many great prospects as we can. And by the same token, it's going to be a largely insignificant factor in a young player coming here. It'll be because they are more likely to get first team opportunities/loans (which we've been notoriously crap at). Why would they come to League 1 Leicester when they can go to Man City? You think our training ground is that much better than theirs? I like JJ but it's hardly like he's some amazing steal. If Man City wanted him, he'd still be there

We now have to be brave and play a nucleus of them to give them a reason to stay here vs going back to an established Prem sides academy. I think a lot of these things are cyclical - i remember a few years back and we were putting out a squad in the PL with 5 or 6 ex-academy players. When things are going well, when things are stable you can do this - unfortunately, like most things in life, when you hit problems, it's the luxury elements (in this case, blooding younger players) that get sacrificed first. For the academy lads of the last few years, it's really just poor timing. And because we're still in a precarious position, it'll probably be the same this year, too - so we will see more of the likes of thomas, skipp, chaplin, cullen and burns - not because they are better players, but because the academy guys are, because of their inexperience, a type of luxury player... On their side, this season, however, is the fact that there will be a lot of football and the squad is pretty thin, so hopefully they'll start getting more and more game time as the season moves on.

Against Northampton at the weekend we had 11 players that have come through the academy in the squad..so it is working still. to be fair it preseason most teams will be like that. One of them is Luke Thomas btw, not sure why your quoting that as a positive haha if we weren’t in league one after being driven into the ground we would lose some but not this many and I find that depressing. I find it sad not even from Leicester POV but from a wider football perspective that clubs can just tear you apart. when I look at Man City and see them make profit in these youngsters without even getting a game, yeah, it makes me think what’s the point. Take Trafford for example, they made profit on him and he didn’t even play, if we purchased a keeper that didn’t play, we couldn’t give him away. The way football is now is bleak imo. (Unless of course you the elite 6)

It was always going to happen unless we was a top prem team, and even them other prem teams still lose them to clubs. Its just part of football which FFP has only made worse.
MonarchFox Posted 11 August Posted 11 August I'd like to see some stats on how many players come through academy systems compared to the amount of players they have within those academies. Then how many get to 50 league games in the highest division they play in. I think you would find some surprising clubs in that list and others left out. The 2026 england squad def had a variety of players that didn't come through at the so called top 4

Half of those have played less than 5 games. It's definitely got better in recent years but if you actually look at how late we generally tend to give players a chance, and how many players we give 5+ games to, and compared that with other clubs, it's pretty bad. No idea why you've made that random point about Yamal or Bellingham? Wait so initially Seagrave allowed us to get great players but now it doesn't really matter? So which is it? I think you're basically agreeing with what I'm saying you're just doing it in a roundabout way. The whole point was that in order for get the best ROI on what we spent, we will absolutely need to be way higher up the food chain because that will allow us to demand more money for players and get access to better talent. I'm not disputing whether Joseph is a good get for us; I really like him. The point is, we spent £100m on Seagrave and the running costs are going to be well in the £millions a year. He's had a decent year in League 2 so his value isn't going to be several £million, nor are we definitely able to say that he's better than anything we could have got for that price (the other element where we get some ROI). We're clearly having some of a golden generation and maybe that's down to Seagrave, but it's much more likely it's down to us having a lot of success and a bigger reputation. But if you're higher up the food chain, you aren't going to be losing anywhere near as many players before they turn pro, especially if you can give them the game time either.

A Grade A standard academy thats spent years quietly producing the best youngsters around the midlands and thrn the whole club falls apart and they can be gotten even more easily. Page played nowhere near enough last season, it was cowardice not to play him when Rowett came in. Monga regressed which happens but Page and Aluko were more than capable of more impact on this diabolical team last season. 3
