Notts County 1-1 LCFC - Post Match Thread

As we saw last season, it's difficult for a team to win a game of football when:

 

A) individuals in the defensive positions make multiple mistakes gifting opportunities to the opponents 

B) Playing without a striker

 

A few nice individual performances, good goal but still problems in key areas

Draw was a fair result. Don’t think it was horrific but definitely underwhelming. The day Thomas leaves will be a ****ing good one.

There hasn't really been any justification for that attitude for a good 4 or 5 years even under Enzo we made hard work of a lot of matches, could be waiting a long while for that attitude to disappear though, perhaps next season it will go unless another relegation happens..

Genuine question as I’m completely lost with this dreadful 4-2-3-1 formation,

and backwards/sideways lack of intensity crap,

but do those that genuinely love this style think it’s good on the eye,

As it’s the most boring and predictable formation,

we have a striker dropping into a number 6 position,

put a dozen passes together from the back to end up no further up the pitch than we started,

all whilst risking losing possession,

even back/sideways when in the final 3rd,

I even see it at grassroots aswell,

but it’s so bad,

it’s boring as hell,

managers seem to beleive in this as being the best way to play but it’s dreadful,

I don’t think the players are always the problem,

it’s the system,

which has clearly not worked for 3 of the last 4 years,

does rudkin and co really enjoy watching this crap when they draw up a shortlist of managers,

we sack managers as this system does not work for us to then recruit another manager that plays the same,

what this system also does is bore the hell out of the next generation of supporters,

we was lucky not to be 2-0 from playing out from the back before we even scored,

I want to be entertained,

be on the front foot,

take games to teams,

we won the ****ing premier league with 30% possession yet feel the need to dominate possession,

just doing something different Russell,

even 3-5-2,

football is fast becoming boring as hell

Both teams scored so I think a draw is a fair result. Need to work on fu*king  around with the ball at the back a lot more if we're gonna win games.

I don't think it's the formation, I think a lot of English football suffers with it, the Pepification, our culture of football as a country can be possession based, it often looks better with fast counter attacks, but the game has to be played at tempo, I'd rather have 30% of the ball and look a threat each time you get it than have 80% possession and not have a shot.

I feel sorry for the likes of Alves, Braybrooke and Joseph who will be dragged down by the players with loads more experience but a much worse attitude. I hope there's enough 'draining' of the proverbial swamp before they get Leicester-itis.

Shocking really. But as expected, the back four is the same apart from one who was way above the others and playing a keeps worst than the one on the bench. Nothing ever make sense. Luke Thomas is still our conversations and it’s 2026. It’s horrific

Okoli, souttar, BDCR, skipp, Thomas, need to be gone. They are the swamp and they’re still stinking the place out. Culture and mind set will be the same if we don’t get rid of them all. So depressing.

I know I'm going to get some stick for these comments but.....

Those 'fans' who booed the team at the end of the game (and at times during it) are a disgrace to our club. They need to look up the definition of what a supporter is and if that's not something that they think fits with them then we would all be better off if they stayed at home. I've got issues with the tactics and with some individual players but I've never booed a Leicester player in my 50+ years attending matches. What must those young players have thought after giving their all in the match. I'm sure that they'll say the usual; "I've paid my money so... Blah blah blah. " This was the first game of the season. We've scraped a draw in spite of all the changes and disruption going on at the club. I'm sure some of these 'supporters' won't be happy unless we see the team fall into L2!

I'm looking at today as optimistically as I can. We are doing everything we can to get rid of the dead wood, but what that means is we're going to have a very young, inexperienced group who have never played together. It's going to take time for this team to gel.

 

At times today we played some really nice football, but yet again we looked like we were trying to pass the ball into the net and lacked any real urgency in the final third.

 

There are plenty of positives, but I think we need to start playing players in the positions where they are at their best. I understand the frustration around Skipp, but he does that mopping-up role really well and the bloke never stops running. You could drop Braybrook into that role, play Chaplin alongside him when he's fit and move Alves into the 10, because he's wasted out wide. But, for now, would you rather have Hamza or Skipp sitting in the holding role?

 

What was clear today is that Burns needs balls in behind — that's the only time he really looked dangerous. Alves needs to be more central, and we need a left winger who is willing to take a man on.

 

The biggest one for me is Thomas. He cannot start. He's a car crash in and out of possession and makes far too many unforced errors. I'm not convinced by Cullen yet either, but I'm certainly not writing him off. The two Brighton boys both look bright, although I didn't see enough of the new striker to form much of an opinion.

 

A point away from home isn't the end of the world.

 

For the first time, we're finally seeing the youth coming through in the team. We've finally got rid of the players who don't want to be here, and we're bringing in players who actually fit what we need. It's going to take time, but that's the point — this is a rebuild.

 

It's time to get behind the team and, for me, the people making the decisions. We're finally starting to see some good decisions being made. Now we need to give this group the time and support to develop.

Alves, Braybrooke and Joseph the best players on the pitch. Alves's energy and ability to beat him man was standout. Each of them showed they had the physicality to deal with the demands of this level.

 

So its Souttar, Okoli and Thomas, who are all horrible, all for different reasons. Skipp woeful. The interplay between those 4 was like watching school kids. Bobby completely ineffective. I thought Burns and Cullen were average, and offered far less than our own youth players. Would have sooner seen Carr, Hutchinson, Ochere, Evans etc our there. 

 

As for the Keeper - where the heck have we dragged that one from? 

This is spot on. I watched all the pre season games & was enthusiastic with the pace, energy & positivity of the youngsters. That positivity evaporated last saturday when I saw the team for Northampton & the deadbeats being selected.

We have little energy in our team & no legs in midfield. The 3 bright spots today were JJ, Will & Sammy & we definitely need Tommy Neale & Aluko in the team asap. they were both excellent pre-season.

 

The goalie is a joke, he makes Danny Ward look like Peter Shilton

Well said. It's not just us, we saw plenty of it in the World Cup too. People are watching games & are bored to tears & so frustrated by it.

I don't think anyone can come on this forum tonight and feel anything other than apathy after that performance....yes we had some youth players coming through...yes we need time to gel and yes we still don't know our best XI but so far that was miles off being anywhere near good enough

How can they not understand that you are not going to get players who can confidently and rapidly pass through teams in League One. You would have to be very lucky with purchases/academy players or have a very good coach. We have neither based on the presenting evidence. With better finishing by County we could easily have lost by two or three.

My one small glimmer of hope (apart from the youth) is that I still expect the squad to change a fair bit until the window closes and it will take time for RMs tactics to-be imbedded in. Its hard to judge were we are until 10/15 games in

I do find it amazing that our managers dont seem to study what went tits up with the previous manager. Its almost like rinse and repeat every time a new manager comes in. The same problems never ever get addressed. Playing out from the back has been spectacularly shite for us for several seasons now.
