Exactly. I don't understand how people don't get this. It's annoying that the game has got that way but it has.

The simple question is; did he need to make that challenge? No. What was going to happen if he wasn't penalised? They'd have a thrown on the halfway line, so why put yourself in that situation. Then you throw in the other stuff and it just underlines how brainless it was.

That 2nd paragraph is bang on but the average fan wont comprehend it.

The card is actually not that relevant to me, the decision to go in for that challenge is. Leadership should be as much about game intelligence as it is "pashun".

Nothing wrong with the tackle itself, but stupid to do when on a yellow. Give the ref a chance.

Frustration, all it was and he saw an opportunity to go in hard. Needs to be better than that as captain..

Only because of the appalling standard of modern refereeing. There was no risk to the Luton player. That should not be a booking. I agree though that Lundstram needs to think more before sliding in like that, particularly when it was absolutely clear that this ref was totally out of his depth.

We’re in agreement here.

Shocking refereeing which is why I’m frustrated at Lundstram, don’t give him the chance.

Also, where it is on the pitch is always going to get more of a reaction from their home fans as on the touch line.

But he's an experienced player, so should know better. What was that tackle actually going to achieve?

Every turnover of possession is a chance to alter a game. I think any experienced player has a good idea on when they can win a ball fairly and when they can’t. I think he just backed himself… I think he was right it was there to be won.

As fans it’s easy to think about it as you’re on a yellow so don’t make that sort of tackle. But as a professional , you can’t wonder around with the handbrake on. Of course don’t do something silly but a 50-50 ball, I expect you to still go for it.  he’s 1-0 down with 10 to go, the manager hasn’t pulled him. He’s the anchor of our midfield if he’s not battling for every ball then he shouldn’t take a spot on the pitch.

it’s all situational, if we are winning then yeah maybe he’d think better but we were in the desperation state of a game. That’s his job to make that tackle. Just my opinion on it.

There's a reason he never made it as a solid Premier league player.  I said before he'll be our best signing this season, but he'll have games where he's just not on it.

Your making lots of decisions during a game, sometimes you don't make the right one.  You can't expect them to be perfect

I think he fancied a night off on Tuesday…can’t think of any other reason why he would have gone in with so much force in a non-threatening area of the pitch

He at least shown some passion which we’ve lacked in recent times was rash tho he looked fuming when Okoli ****ed up then he gets sent off lol

Part of the softness is the lack of appealing for stuff and giving refs an easy ride. You knew as soon as the Luton players reacted like that he was going off.

We moan about our players being too soft and then moan when they’re aggressive. He won the ball. Fantastic, albeit aggressive tackle. This club needs more of that.

I agree. But it was stupid given he was already on a yellow. Their players and fans were going mad - the ref was always going to send him off whether we agree or not about it being a good tackle

Weak from the ref and gives a yellow for a hard tackle as he wins the ball and his studs are down, now if he deems that reckless and out of control how does he explain the overhead catching Smallbone in the head?

Totally get that and you're right that you need to keep the edge. My point is that the only outcome of winning that ball, in that sort of challenge is another throw to Luton on halfway. The way he went in, it was physically impossible for him to retrieve possession of the ball. You wouldn't even be able to get a deflection and then a throw our way as that would mean the tackle wasn't perfectly clean and then there really is no other option for the ref.

With his experience your decision making should get better and you shouldn't be putting yourself in situations like that. For me, it just compounded what was a dreadful performance from him.

That's the other thing, it's right in front of the home fans, on a tight, old fashioned ground. Yet another factor that's going against you
