Alexikokopops Posted 26 January 2006 Share Posted 26 January 2006 Theres no doubt about it, i`d have neil lennon down here as a player, in a footballing flash! But player manager, have you all gone stark raving mad? We are third bottom, we cannot afford to have someone who hasnt made a mistake managerially, who WILL make a mistake (and learn from them) and the mistake could then be relegation! Lennon as player coach, yes, but not player manager, its fantasy football folks. I want nigel clough, or mike newell, either will do. Both have enough managerial experience for us. Both young, weve got a young squad. Both play the game in which our players have the potential play. Both have passion for the game, and a desire to WIN! Both were attacking players, and we need guidence to score. WITH MY HEART AND I DON'T CARE!!
BartonFox Posted 26 January 2006 Share Posted 26 January 2006 Both, but with the caveat that it includes one or both of Robertson and Walford. Besides Celtic owe us for Weslowski....

Nigel Clough is managing little more than a pub team who got lucky and drew Man Utd at home on what can only be described as a badly-maintained beach. He is hardly a managerial genius. gloucesterfox Posted 26 January 2006 Share Posted 26 January 2006 The reasons Neil Lennon is not a ridiculous choice are as follows: 1 - Great footballer, with a great footballing brain. 2 - Played at the highest level domesticaly and can still do it. 3 - Played for the Club and knows what is needed. 4 - The respect levels from the younger players would be through the roof. 5 - He could easily bring in an experienced backroom team. 6 - He would be a cheap option. 7 - He knows plenty of the squad just now. 8 - Better option than any other name mentioned at the minute. 9 - Biggest crowd of the season for his first game back. 10 - Gets the Leicester public back onside in a big way. 11 - He might get Gerry back to kick the cr*p out of the underperforming nancy-boys. The negatives are this: A - Inexperienced. B - Liked a bevy, would he have the discipline? C - Tim Davies is an idiot and would hire my mate Chris Lennon. D - Paul Lambert, great player like Lennon - really struggling at Livingston and he has his badges. E - He might bring Bobo Balde with him Another minus, if we got the dream team, is that as soon as MON is ready to come back to football all the experience in our management team will go walk about at the same time. Also how many players would be out for months after training games!
Gené and Tonic Posted 26 January 2006 Share Posted 26 January 2006 I do think he'd need someone to work alongside him for a bit, John Robertson would be great, we'll see.

Anyway if as expected O'Neill gets the Man United job in a few years can you honestly see John Robertson at United? I have my doubts.

Chairman of the Bored Posted 26 January 2006 Share Posted 26 January 2006 Maybe a consortium of ex-players could be brought in to do the job? Lennon - player/manager Izzet: assistant player/manager Marshall (Ian): fitness coach Spider Kalac: goalkeeping coach Marshall (Lee): defensive coach Lewis (Junior): midfield coach and strategist Akinbiy: offensive coach Savage: hair stylist Collymore: health and safety officer If that lot don't get us into the play offs by 2015 no one will. Anyway if as expected O'Neill gets the Man United job in a few years can you honestly see John Robertson at United? I have my doubts. I would not see MON going anywhere where he was told what backroom staff he could or could not employ my guess is he would sooner go to a "lesser" club and have his own way. I think there would be plenty of clubs with money to bank role him for him to be able to choose one where he can have his way, in that area especially. Ricey Posted 26 January 2006 Share Posted 26 January 2006 What a fantastic idea! Lennon has: - Passion - He's a born leader - He'll relate to the players well He may not have experience but if he had an assitant with plentyful knowledge it could work well. Rob Kelly knows the league well so maybe he could partner up with him. Neil Lennon - Player/Manager of Leicester City
Louise Posted 26 January 2006 Share Posted 26 January 2006 Reading the other forums etc. it seems like the suggestion of Lennon has really gotten everyone going. If he was appointed I doubt you'd get anyone speaking against him... Now we've just got to work out whether him coming here is at all likely... Chairman of the Bored Posted 26 January 2006 Share Posted 26 January 2006 Players that went into management too soon and screwed up: McClintock (with us) Cottee (Barnet) Levein (should have waited until his luck changed....aged 94) Claridge (Pooroldpompey, Weymouth, Millwall....) Bobby Charlton (bombed at Preston) However, managers that succeeded with no managerial/coaching experience to speak of: Dalgleish Can anyone else think of any more? Claridge did really well at Pompey but got ascked when Mandriac came in, at Weymoth he dis well also finishing 2nd and you can't really count Millwall.
