I guess that's where we differ I don't think he did that much wrong. You can either tell the fans to get real and grow up and explain to them how they're being hypocritical or you can punish the players.

The problem with punishing the players is deciding when a goal celebration is inciting trouble there's bound to be a grey area and I can see if it goes down that route then they'll err on the side of caution and restrict goal celebrations even more. Legislators have a history of going too far to placate the minority.

I don't think Adebayor did anything majorly wrong, it was probably a little naive, but I don't think it's that bad. All that I'm getting at is that if the FA are deeming it wrong for fans to entice players and throw things and become aggresive, then they must back themselves up by following up with punishments for attempts at enticing players.

I know what Adebayor did was stupid, but did he really deserve a yellow for that celebration? He didn't even leave the pitch. Does anyone know the rules regarding celebrations like that?

I think it's something to do with inflammatory behaviour and unnecessarily inciting the opposition fans.

If you think Adebayor did nothing wrong then it's seems only logical that the fans over reacted and ended up acting badly, trying to get on the pitch or illegally by throwing things. So if anyone should be punished it's them, they've really not got anything to complain about have they?

When things like Adebayor's celebration are finally squeezed out, the game will be as sterile as tennis has become. People watch MOTD because of things like that or the same player's amazing dribble or Rooney's demonstration of one man against the rest when United were reduced to 10 men. If we wanted to watch the ordinary we could sit and watch a croupier gathering chips at the casino. Or a Rob Kelly press conference. :D

Adebayor shouldn't even have been on the pitch to score. His stamp on Van Persie was as blatant as it was disgraceful. Not only did he aim for (and brush) Van Persie's head, but he also followed through and almost stamped on his hand too. It was shocking.

His celebration was daft, of course it was going to incite trouble. We all know what fans are like - they can give it out but they can't take it back, it's the same with every set of fans. It's up to the players to take the higher ground - the players have a responsibility to the game (given what they are taking from the game) to behave professionally and let their football do the talking. Adebayor would've shut the Arsenal fans up just by scoring the goal, he didn't need to do what he did and cause trouble.

The FA shouldn't punish him for the celebration though, but they should punish him for the stamp.

There's no doubt about that. I cannot believe there's still debate about it. No way was that stamp an accident.

I wish I was head of F.A or whoever gives these charges out. If I was it then I would ban Adebayor from English football and then lets see who celebrates in front of the Arsenal fans.

That celebrate was inciting a riot and was disgraceful. I don't think they were booing him and it's not the Arsenal fans' fault that he went to Manchester City for the money but to do that was ridiculas.

Ban him from English football and then lets see who's laughing for both the stamp and the celebration.

So, hypothetically if Wellens scores against Doncaster and celebrates in an overly enthusiastic way you'd ban him from English football :dunno:

The FA will say the same thing as usual, it was dealt with on the pitch, adebayor was booked for the celebration and the ref took no further action, but the stamp........i think because the ref missed it they will look into but had he been given a yellow or red for it, the fa wouldnt do anything simply because they will claim it was dealt with by the referee!

In some circumstances they will take further action though. Dermot Gallagher said on SSN that there would be no doubt further action would take place or at least be considered.

To run the length of the field and celebrate in front of fans that haven't booed you all game is ridiculas. It is not professional and he should be band. Simple as.

Really, do you think Richie Wellens would run over to the away end at the Walkers and celebrate in front of the Doncaster fans? If he did the celebration in front of a home stand like The Kop then that is fine but to do it in front of the away fans, fans that didn't boo you is ridiculas.

I can't see Wellens doing that anway, he'd just put his hand up or something like Fryatt did at Walsall last season.

Did you go to Manchester City away in the Prem for our first visit their? Remember, Dickov was hated by Manchester City fans, more than what Adebayor was by Arsenal fans, but he celebrated in front of the Leicester fans only, not in front of the home end.

Getting booked for taking your shirt off is ridiculas, but a booking for that is well deserved. It's not nice to see either because Adebayor is such as brilliant striker.

_______

There are to many foriegn players in the game anyway, never mind one's that cause a riot

Ban him and never let him return to England again to play football :whistle:

Adebayor is a character.

If people dont wanna see a bit of character and personality from footballers go watch Golf or something.

Banning him from English football, what complete and utter bullshit.

Eh?

He was getting shit before and during the game wasn't he?

The looks on the faces of some of those Arsenal fans made me laugh. What the fuck is wrong with people that makes them act like animals just because a player gives a bit back. Wankers.

3 match ban for the stamp, no action for the celebration. The End.

oh my. Didn't Gary Neville do the same at Anfield a while back? Let's not get all Daily Mail. I agree that Adebayor was an idiot thoguh and am suprised at the support he seems to be getting. So what if Arsenal fans abused him? It's part of his duty (and £170k per week pay packet) to act proffessionally and rise above it - ala Wenger at Old Trafford. Once the games over make an official complaint and hope that the FA deal with the fans appropriately (not all together likely iknow)

He scored a goal and was celebrating, what the Arsenal fans didn't like was the fact that he'd left them and came back and scored they were miffed, so what they give out plenty of aggro they should learn to take a bit back.

It's not as if his celebration was aggressive just exuberant.

Agree getting booked for taking your shirt off is ridiculous, so is exiting the pitch. But where do you draw this neat line of how to celebrate, would he have been allowed to run halfway up the pitch, 20 yards?

The simple fact is the Arsenal fans, like many others don't like it when they are the butt of celebrations or piss taking yet they are quite happy to give it out.

Just to add I'm no Arsenal hater either.

I suppose if it was the other way around, the Arsenal fans would have been laughing like the Manchester City fans were, it's just the fact that I tried to put myself in the Arsenal fans position and how would I react?

I guess I went just a bit over the top but I didn't like it that much, just as I would not if an old player like Joe Mattock came back, scored and then ran the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of us.
